Middle school girls tankers beat Bluffton

BLUFFTON — The Jay County middle school girls swim team won nine events Thursday in a 98-88 victory against the host Bluffton Tigers.
Jay County’s boys squad lost, 118-64.
Lilli Clemmons and Jenna Dunfee had their part in three victories apiece for Jay County. Clemmons won both the 100-yard individual medley and the 400 freestyle and joined Ashlyn Dow, Kaitlyn Dow and Eliza Bader to take first in the 200 medley relay.
Dunfee was victorious in the 50 butterfly and also swam in the winning 200 and 300 freestyle relays. She teamed up with Kaitlyn Dow, Kaitlyn Hicks and Rieley Brewster to win the 200 freestyle relay. She joined Kearsten Myers, Ashlyn Dow and Cydney Smith to win the 300 freestyle.
Kaitlyn Dow took first in the 100 freestyle, Ashlyn Dow won the 200 freestyle and Bader finished first in the 100 backstroke.
Tayler Smeltzer (50 butterfly and 400 freestyle) and Sammy Crump (50 freestyle) picked up the only victories for the Jay County boys.

Eagles go 1-2
DUNKIRK — West Jay Middle School’s wrestling team went 1-2 Thursday in a quad-meet it hosted.
The Eagles defeated the Blue River Vikings 30-0, and lost to the Muncie Southside Panthers and Monroe Central Golden Bears 31-6 and 35-12 respectively.
Zakk Atkins won all three of his matches in the 110-pound weight class. Carter Mitchell (85), Sean Ashley (95), Johnathan Pierce (117), Andrew Toney (150) and Braiden Boyle (heavyweight) all earned wins for the Eagles.
Rob Garringer picked up a pair of victories in exhibition matches, with Bryan Alexander and Mitchell each adding wins in reserve action.

Chiefs win two
East Jay’s wrestling team defeated both the Union City Indians and Randolph Southern Rebels in a three-way meet on Thursday.
The Chiefs routed the Rebels 90-6, and beat the Indians 74-28.
Cooper Jacks won all three of his matches. Skyler Myers, Ian Liette, David Kohler, Mason Winner and Chandler Bush were all 2-0 on the evening. Bailey Ludy, Daniel Ostrowski, Ethan Corwin and Braden McIntire also went 2-0.
Jacob Hutchins and Brian Newman were both 2-1.
Also earning wins for the Chiefs were Chandler Chapman, Derrick Allen, Taylor Donnelly, Kevin Myers, Zach Twigg, Dawson Frasher, Dylan Racster and Hunter Mills.
