Jay girls swim past South Adams

The Jay County middle school girls swim team won nine events on Tuesday in a 166-138 victory against the South Adams Starfires.
South Adams’ boys team beat Jay County, 137-101.
Eliza Bader and Lilli Clemmons both won a pair of individual events for Jay County. Bader took first in the 100-yard butterfly and the 100 breaststroke and Clemmons won the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke.
Leah Hummel (diving), Ashlyn Dow (100 individual medley) and Kaitlyn Dow (400 freestyle) also earned victories.
Bader, Clemmons and the Dows teamed to win both the 200 medley and 300 freestyle relays.
Jenna Dunfee (100 individual medley), Rieley Brewster (400 freestyle), Kaitlyn Dow (200 freestyle) and Ashlyn Dow (100 freestyle) all turned in runner-up performances.
Tayler Smeltzer earned the only two wins for the Jay County boys, winning both the 200 freestyle and 50 butterfly.
Earning second-place honors were Ben Strausburg (100 IM), Griffin Mann (400 freestyle) and Chase McFarland (100 backstroke).
South Adams results were not available.
Eagles blank Tigers
DUNKIRK — West Jay Middle School’s wrestling team shut out the Allen County Athletic Conference rival Bluffton Tigers on Tuesday, 36-0.
All six wins for the Eagles came by way of the pin.
Carter Mitchell (85-pound weight class), Malcolm McIntire (110), Johnathan Pierce (117), Brenden Lawhorn (125), Andrew Toney (150) and Larkin Alsip (220) all earned victories.
In reserve action, Sean Ashley, Zakk Atkins, Rob Garringer, Nathaniel Lykins, Mitchell, Lawhorn and Alsip each won their respective matches.
