Lykins breaks Blue Raider record
Josh Lykins etched his name in the record books while at Jay County High School.
Now he’s a collegiate record holder.
The 2014 JCHS graduate anchored Lindsey Wilson College’s record-breaking 400-yard freestyle relay team as it set a new program mark during the 2015 NAIA Swimming and Diving National Championships Saturday in Oklahoma City.
Lykins teamed with Jose Prado de Lima, Zachary Patzer and Jonas Muller to finish in 3 minutes, 8.08 seconds. The quartet finished 10th.
The Blue Raiders placed 14th as a team at the national championships.
Lykins also swam the breaststroke leg of the 400 medley relay with Prado de Lima, Mullins and Patzer, as they finished 13th in 3:31.33. They were 15th in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:27.67.
The freshman also turned in a career-best 1:58 in the 200 butterfly, and finished the 100 butterfly in 52.21 seconds.
Neal Fennig
Jay County – 2011
Contributed to a sixth-place relay finish for the Ball State University men’s swim team at the Mid-American Conference Championships, which ran March 4 through Saturday at Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
Fennig and teammates Cole Smith, Austin Green and Joe Morris finished the 400-yard freestyle in 3 minutes, 2.42 seconds. They took sixth place in the event for the Cardinals, who finished last in the seven-team meet.
Also at the MAC meet, Fennig placed 17th in the 500 freestyle, 18th in the 200 freestyle and 21st in the 100 freestyle.
Drew Houck
Jay County – 2011
Posted the No. 4 score for the Indiana University East men’s golf team Monday and Tuesday at the Skyhawk Invitational at Callaway Gardens in Atlanta.
Houck struggled on day one of the tournament as he shot a 97. He bounced back with an 88 on day two for a total of 185, which placed him 32nd.

South Adams – 2014
Tallied a stolen base and scored a run for the Bethel College baseball team in a 3-2 win against Sienna Heights March 5 in Lake Wales, Florida.
He went 1-for-3 with a double later in the day in an 11-0 loss to NAIA No. 12 Bellevue.
The South Adams product was 2-for-8 the following day against the same two teams, going 1-for-4 in each game.
He scored a run in a 4-1 win against Sienna Heights, and then the Pilots (2-7) lost to Bellevue, 15-3 at Warner University.

Played for the Saginaw Valley State University men’s basketball team as it lost to top-seeded Lake Superior State on Saturday in the semifinal round of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament.
Gelhaus grabbed three rebounds in two minutes of action as the Cardinals (21-9) fell 70-56. He also scored two points.
He went 1-for-3 with a double later in the day in an 11-0 loss to NAIA No. 12 Bellevue.
