Middle school girls win ACAC

Middle school swimming

Four girls combined to win seven events on Saturday, helping the Jay County middle school swim team to the championship in the inaugural Allen County Athletic Conference meet.
Jay County scored 564 points, finishing ahead of South Adams (474), Bluffton (466) and Adams Central (385).
The Jay boys were third with 344 points. Bluffton (617) finished first, South Adams (470) was second and Adams Central (199) placed fourth.
Eliza Bader won both the 50-yard butterfly and 100 breaststroke as the lone double winner for Jay County. 
Lilli Clemmons, Kaitlyn Dow and Ashlyn Dow all earned victories in single events. Clemmons was first in the 100 backstroke, Kaitlyn Dow won the 400 freestyle and Ashlyn Dow was victorious in the 100 individual medley. The quartet also combined to win the 200 medley and 300 freestyle relays.
Tayler Smeltzer was the lone individual winner for the Jay County boys, winning both the 200 freestyle and the 50 butterfly.


West Jay places 18th
INDIANAPOLIS — The West Jay Middle School archery team placed 18th Saturday at the National Archery in the Schools Program state tournament at Indiana State Fairgrounds.
Its 3,079 points earned a berth in the national tournament in June.
Joey Littler scored 269 points to finish 21st out of all seventh grade boys. Hunter Harrison finished behind him in 33rd with a score of 265, and Cole Wendel was 49th with 260.
Andrew Powers was 19th in the sixth grade boys division with 263 points, and Makayla Templeton (264) was 29th in the seventh grade girls division.
