FR to host Lions
Ninth-ranked Indians earn No. 3 seed
COLUMBUS — Two days after setting a pair of school records, the Indians reached another milestone.
In the OHSAA football playoff pairings released Sunday, the Division VII No. 9 Fort Recovery High School football team earned a three seed in Region 26.
A No. 3 seed guarantees the Indians (8-2) will host a playoff game for the first time in program history.
Fort Recovery, which beat Versailles 27-13 Friday to set new school marks for wins in a season, both overall (eight) and in the Midwest Athletic Conference (six), will host Cincinnati Miami Valley Christian Academy at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the regional quarterfinal. The Lions (8-1) are the No. 6 seed.
The winner will advance to the regional semifinal Nov. 13 against either No. 2 seed and 10th-ranked Covington (8-2) or Lehman Catholic (6-4), which is seeded seventh.
The regional semifinal will be at a neutral site.
The top half of the Region 26 bracket has fifth-ranked and top-seeded Minster (8-2) hosting eighth-seeded Fort Loramie (6-4). Minster is the defending Division VI state champion, and was dropped down to Division VII at the beginning of this school year.
The winner between Minster and Fort Loramie advances to the semifinal against No. 4 seed DeGraff Riverside (9-1) or Ada (6-4).
This marks back-to-back playoff berths for the Indians, who had not reached week 11 prior to the 2014 season. Fort Recovery defeated Fort Loramie 28-0 in its first playoff game last year before losing to eventual state champion Marion Local 35-0. The Flyers, who won their fourth-consecutive title in 2014, moved up one division this season and is the top-ranked team in the state.
