Patriot boys win regular-season finale

Jay County had a big lead at halftime.
It held on down the stretch for a season-ending victory.
The Jay County High School boys soccer team picked up a 4-3 victory against the Oak Hill Eagles on Saturday in its regular season finale.
Nathan Heitkamp scored two goals — his 12th and 13th respectively — in the opening half, finding the back of the net just three minutes into the contest.
Trevor Moeller, a former goalkeeper, scored his first goal of the season to give the Patriots (7-6) a 3-0 lead before halftime.
Oak Hill scored twice after intermission to cut the deficit to 3-2, until Zach Chaney tallied his third goal of the season to put Jay County ahead 4-2 with five minutes remaining.
The Eagles scored two minutes later to get back within one, but the Patriots hung on for its second win in as many games.
Jay County’s junior varsity team also won, 1-0. Freshman Daniel Fugiett scored the only goal of the game.
Stars 1-2 at invite
CONVOY, Ohio — South Adams’ volleyball team went 1-2 at the Crestview Invitational on Saturday.
The Starfires (16-9) lost to the Marion Local Flyers (25-17, 25-16) before knocking off the host Knights 25-17, 25-23. South Adams then dropped its match 25-7, 25-19 to the Ottawa-Glandorf Titans.
Addie Wanner had a team-high 16 kills, with Madi Wurster and Cindy In’t Groen adding nine and eight kills respectively. Kylea Pierce had 24 digs defensively, and Kylie Grabau tallied six blocks. Julia Grabau totaled 42 assists.
South Adams’ junior varsity squad went 3-0 at the Adams Central Invitational in Monroe. The Stars beat Allen County Athletic Conference foes Adams Central, Bluffton and Southern Wells. Stats and scores were not provided.

MUNCIE — It took a half for the Patriots and Bearcats to get their offense going.
Once they started clicking, Jay County came out on top.
Gabe Faulkner ran for one touchdown and threw for another Saturday as the Jay County High School freshman football team defeated the Muncie Central Bearcats 20-12.
After a scoreless first half, the Patriots (4-3) took a 6-0 lead after three quarters. Jay County outscored Muncie Central 14-12 in the final period for the victory.
Faulkner was 2-of-7 passing for 83 yards, with Wyatt Geesaman hauling in both completions. Thomas Hemmelgarn added the other score for the Patriots, and he had 19 yards on 10 carries. Ryan Schlechty had a team-high 71 rushing yards on seven carries.
