Fort Recovery golf teams beat Flyers

CELINA, Ohio — Fort Recovery High School’s boys and girls golf teams both defeated the Marion Local Flyers on Monday at Mercer County Elks.
The Tribe boys edged the Flyers by three strokes, 175-178, while the FRHS girls won 210-233.
Senior Jackson Hobbs made two birdies on his way to a 40 to earn match medalist honors. Chase Bruns made par four times and had four bogeys in finish 6-over par with a 42.
Micaiah Cox (45) and Nick Litmer (48) completed the team score for the Tribe boys, who move to 7-5 (4-2 Midwest Athletic Conference).
Austin Faller and Colt Greishop also competed and tied with a round of 51.
Tori Vaughn earned match medalist with a 49 to pace the Fort Recovery girls (5-1, 2-1 MAC). It was one stroke off her career-best 48 she set Aug. 24 against Waynesfield-Goshen.
Elli Keller shot a 50 for the best score of her career. Trisha Thien followed with a 53, and Emily Bruns had a 58 to complete the Tribe’s team score.
Cori Stone (59) and Eryn Litmer (77) also competed for Fort Recovery. It was Litmer’s first varsity match.

Jay romps Oak Hill
Parker Grimes threw three touchdown passes as the Jay County junior varsity football team defeated the Oak Hill Golden Eagles, 42-28.
Jay County (1-1) trailed Oak Hill 14-7 after the first quarter, but exploded for 21 points in the second to take a 28-21 lead into halftime. The Patriots added another score in the third quarter for a 35-21 advantage.
Grimes connected with Michael Schlecthy for a 60-yard score, and found Mitchel Frasher and Max Moser for 30-yard touchdowns.
Frasher also added a rushing touchdown from 25-yards out. Collin Haines and Ivan Hemmelgarn also scored on the ground.

Indians blank Blackhawks
FORT RECOVERY — Cade Wendel and Cole Dues helped provide the offense.
The Indians kept the Blackhawks off the scoreboard.
Fort Recovery’s junior varsity football team shut out Mississinawa Valley 46-0 on Monday.
Wendel found the end zone for a rushing touchdown and connected with Davis Will for another score. Dues scored two rushing touchdowns, one from 10 yards out and another from the 3-yard line.
Clayton Pearson found Payton Jutte for a 27-yard touchdown pass, and Robby LeFevre also had a rushing touchdown for the Indians (2-0).

Freshmen beat Bruins
HARTFORD CITY — It took one quarter for the Patriots to find the end zone.
By then, the Bruins couldn’t keep up.
Jay County’s freshman football team defeated Blackford 30-12 on Monday.
Thomas Hemmelgarn scored three rushing touchdowns to lead the Patriots (2-0). He finished with 129 yards on just six carries. Gabe Faulkner also had a rushing touchdown for Jay County.
Hemmelgarn paced the JCHS defense as well with nine tackles.
