South Adams rallies to beat Parkway

BERNE — Parkway nabbed the first set 25-23.
The Starfires stole the show in the next three.
South Adams High School’s volleyball team rallied from a one-set deficit to defeat Parkway, 23-25, 25-19, 25-18, 25-19.
Cindy In’t Groen and Madeline Wurster paced the offense for the Starfires (7-2) by tallying 10 kills apiece. Morgan Alberson had nine kills to go with her 11 digs and two blocks.
Defensively, Kylea Pierce had 19 digs for the Starfires, and Julia Grabau recorded 18 digs and three blocks. Kylie Grabau also had three blocks, and Caralie Farlow notched 14 digs.
Julia Grabau also had 32 assists.
The Starfires’ junior varsity squad also beat the Panthers, 25-18, 25-15. Jade Farlow had eight kills and Shaelynn Bowman tallied five. Isabella Bailey totaled 15 assists and eight digs.
SA golfers win
GENEVA — South Adams’ girls golf team moved to 7-0 on the season with a victory against Bluffton.
The Starfires defeated the visiting Tigers 195-202 at Golf Club of the Limberlost.
Senior Sydney Willis earned match medalist honors for the eighth time this season, finishing her round with a 3-over par 39. She made par on every hole except three — the first, seventh and eighth, which she bogeyed.
Kaiti Gorrell made par on the par-4 first, then finished with a 51 for the Stars’ No. 2 score. She edged her sister Jaci by one stroke, and Amy Schwartz shot a 53 to complete the team score for South Adams.
Becah Schwartz and Allyson Schwartz also competed, finishing with scores of 56 and 68 respectively.
Jaimee Joskie and Kaitlyn Hart both shot a 47 to lead Bluffton.

DECATUR — The South Adams boys cross country team finished first Tuesday in the Bi-County Conditioner at Bellmont.
The Starfires had a total time of 1 hour, 39 minutes, 51.3 seconds, beating Adams Central by more than three minutes. The Jets had a time of 1:43.26.2. Bellmont was third in the six-team meet, finishing 7.1 seconds behind Adams Central.
South Adams’ girls placed second in 2:04:35.6. Bellmont won the five-team meet in 2:03:05.7, and Norwell (2:12:17.3) was third.
The Starfire duo of Bailey McIntire and McGerran Clouser teamed to win the boys’ relay in 31:42. Wyatt Miller and David Steffen (33:32.2) were sixth, with Briar Goodwin and Daniel Steffen (34:37) finishing eighth.
South Adams sophomore Olivia Von Gunten and junior Kara Seffernick were second in the girls’ race with a time of 38:32.6. Sisters Katelin and Hadi Hawbaker finished fifth in 42:25.9, and Makenna Neuenschwander joined Olivia Mason to place ninth with a time of 43:37.
