Patriot runners second
JCHS cross country
CONVERSE — Jay County High School’s boys and girls cross country teams both finished second Tuesday at the Oak Hill Invitational.
The Patriot girls scored 64 points, 35 behind meet winner Oak Hill. Tipton was third in the five-team race with 69 points.
Oak Hill also won the boys’ race with 26 points. Jay County scored 96 for second, and Peru was third out of nine teams with 119 points.
Megan Wellman and Kellie Fortkamp were second and third respectively for the JCHS girls. Wellman crossed the finish line in 20 minutes, 35 seconds, and Fortkamp had a time of 21:29.
Erika Kunkler was 13th in 23:44, Taylor Homan finished 19th in 24:09 and Destiny Berry placed 51st in 33:40.
Vivienne Kunkler ran, and she was 54th with a time of 35:39.
Michael Denney paced the JCHS boys, finishing ninth in 18:58. Alex LeMaster (19:30) and Travis Barton (20:02) were 14th and 20th respectively, and Dallas Dudelston finished 24th in 20:20.
Matthew Cox was the Patriots’ fifth runner, and he finished 31st in 21:05.
Also running for Jay County was Sayger Holcomb (38th – 21:33), Skyler Myers (39th – 21:39), Dustin Bricker (51st (22:49), Tayler Smeltzer (57th – 23:18) and Rob Garringer (79th – 27:39).
