Tribe wins, moves to 3-0

Indians reach mark for first time since 2000

FORT RECOVERY — The Indians had been there before, nabbing an early lead against Anna. But they had also seen such an advantage disappear.
The Rockets fought back again Friday, but the Tribe turned them away.
After its two-touchdown lead slipped to two points, Fort Recovery High School’s football team responded almost immediately with a 21-yard Kyle Schroer touchdown run. The Indians kept Anna out of their territory in the final quarter to secure a 21-12 win and their first 3-0 start in 15 years.
Fort Recovery (3-0, 1-0 Midwest Athletic Conference) looked primed for a big victory after going up 14-0 on Will Homan’s 21-yard touchdown run on the opening play of the second quarter. But the Rockets (0-3, 0-1 MAC) were hungry for their first win.
Anna, which outscored FRHS 21-0 in the second half last season for a 34-20 victory, closed to within eight at the half and got a Collin Wuebker 8-yard TD run late in the third quarter to make the score 14-12. But just three plays later Schroer’s run extended the Indians’ lead and set the stage for a strong defensive effort in the fourth quarter.
Two of the Rockets’ fourth-quarter drives went four-and-out and Darien Sheffer halted the other with an interception.
Fort Recovery is unbeaten through three games for the first time since opening with wins over National Trail, Lima Central Catholic and Wayne Trace in 2000. That team lost its next four games and finished 4-6.

Schroer scored the first touchdown of the night for the Indians on a 78-yard run. That set the stage for a 22-carry, 180-yard effort on the ground while quarterback Caleb Martin added another 50 yards on just four rushing attempts.
Martin also completed six passes, with Wes Wenning hauling in two.
Ross Homan paced the Tribe defense with nine tackles, and Andrew Stocker and Tyler Acheson added eight apiece. Wenning and Sheffer each had interceptions.
Wuebker finished with 157 rushing yards and two touchdowns for Anna, which out-gained the Indians by 43 yards but turned the ball over four times. Travis Meyer completed seven passes with Carter Huelskamp catching five of them for 46 yards.
Fort Recovery will seek its first 4-0 start in school history Friday when it travels to Delphos to take on the St. John’s Blue Jays (0-3, 0-1 MAC).
