South Adams girls soccer team defeats Heritage
Monday roundup
BERNE — Lexi Dellinger and Maddie Morgan scored two goals apiece Monday.
The Heritage Patriots didn’t score any.
South Adams High School’s girls soccer team shut out Heritage on Monday, 4-0.
Dellinger put the Starfires (3-6, 1-1 Allen County Athletic Conference) on the board less than four minutes into the first half on an assist from Jordyn Weaver. Morgan scored the first of her two goals midway through the opening half.
Dellinger notched her second goal midway through the second, and assisted on Morgan’s final tally later in the game.
SA boys fall
MONROEVILLE — South Adams’ boys soccer team got on the board early, but couldn’t hang on in a 4-2 defeat Monday to Heritage.
Chance Sprunger scored four minutes into the game to give South Adams (4-4-1, 0-2 ACAC) a 1-0 lead, but then Heritage responded with three goals on backup goalkeeper McGerran Clouser. The last of the three was on a penalty kick.
Sprunger scored again in the second half on an assist by Brian O’Donnell to cut the deficit to one, but the host Patriots added an insurance goal with 90 seconds to play.
Clouser finished with seven saves, and the Stars only had seven shots on goal.
Jay dominates
Jay County’s freshman football team dominated the Winchester junior varsity squad Monday in a 28-0 shutout.
Wyatt Geesaman, Gabe Faulkner, Ryan Schlechty and Noah Harris all had touchdowns for the Patriots.
Isaac Moeller and Geesaman also had 2-point conversions.
Defensively, Harris had an interception, with Thomas Hemmelgarn and Daniel Ostrowski both recovering fumbles.
The Patriots move to 3-1 on the season, and are home against Richmond at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Chief spikers lose
East Jay Middle School’s seventh and eighth grade volleyball teams both lost to Adams Central on Monday.
The EJMS seventh graders lost 25-21, 25-23, and the eighth graders fell 25-20, 25-16.
Natalie Miles and Alana Kunkler both had two kills to lead the Chief eighth graders. Pacie Denney and Maria Dirksen added two digs apiece. Miles and Denney also had two aces and a pair of assists.
Logan Poore led the eighth graders with five service points, including tow aces, and Sara Hemmelgarn also had two aces on her way to four points. Elyse Bost, Macey Weitzel and Britney Mullins all had three points.
EJ runners win
DECATUR — Mason and Mitchell Winner led the East Jay boys cross country team to a 26-29 victory Monday against Bellmont.
The Chief girls lost, 24-31.
Mason finished second in 11 minutes, 43 seconds, and Mitchell was third. Brayden Sprunger, Ben Strausburg and Flint Schmiesing were sixth, seventh and eighth respectively.
Miranda Alig placed second for the EJMS girls in 13:48. Lindy Wood was fourth, Cheyenne Liette and Lita Chowing were back-to-back in seventh and eighth, and Ella Roessner was 10th.
The Heritage Patriots didn’t score any.
