Starfires end season 12-0

BLUFFTON — The only thing that could stop the Starfires’ winning streak is the end of the season.
South Adams High School’s girls golf team finished a perfect 12-0 in dual matches with a 195-210 victory Thursday against the Norwell Knights at Timber Ridge Golf Course.
Senior Sydney Willis shot a 3-over par 39 to lead South Adams, which returns to Timber Ridge on Saturday for the sectional tournament. Willis had three bogeys and made par on the remaining six holes. She was the only Starfire to shoot lower than 50.
Amy Schwartz was second for SAHS with an even 50, and Jaci Gorrell had a 52. Becah Schwartz shot 54 to complete the Starfires’ team total.
Kaiti Gorrell (55) and Allyson Schwartz (57) also competed for South Adams.
Norwell’s Amber Nelson had a 36 to earn match medalist, spoiling Willis’ quest to win medalist in every round.

Dellinger scores four
FORT WAYNE — Lexi Dellinger scored four goals and assisted on another as the South Adams girls soccer team beat the Fort Wayne South Side Archers, 7-4.
Dellinger recorded a hat trick in the first half, helping the Starfires (4-6) to a 6-1 lead at halftime.
Maddie Morgan had two goals in the opening half, and Alyssa Bertch also found the back of the net.
South Side scored four consecutive goals, one in the final minutes before intermission and three in the first 14 minutes of the second half.
Dellinger scored her final goal with less than five minutes in the game.
Virginia Lagos, Josie Hall and Bertch also added assists in the lopsided win.

Stars, Generals tie
BERNE — South Adams overcame a one-goal deficit twice Thursday in a 2-2 draw with the Wayne Generals.
Trailing 2-1, Brian O’Donnell tied the game for South Adams (4-5-2) when his corner kick found the back of the net with 12 minutes to play. The Starfires continued to get chances to score in the final 10 minutes, but weren’t able to convert on the opportunities.
South Adams and Wayne played tight in the opening half, until the Generals took the lead with eight minutes remaining. Two minutes later, David Guzman buried a penalty kick to tie the game.
Wayne scored on a free kick 13 minutes into the second half before the Stars netted the equalizer again.

Patriots top Stars
BERNE — South Adams’ volleyball team outlasted Heritage in the third set to take a 2-1 lead.
The visiting Patriots came surging back to stay undefeated in Allen County Athletic Conference play.
Heritage beat South Adams 19-25, 25-15, 30-32, 25-11, 15-8.
South Adams falls to 13-5 (2-1 ACAC), while Heritage moves to 15-3 (3-0 ACAC) and is in a first-place tie atop the conference standings with Jay County.
Kylie Grabau had 13 kills to lead the Starfires. Madi Wurster added nine kills, with Morgan Alberson and Cindy In’t Groen each adding seven kills and 10 digs.
Kylea Pierce and Julia Grabau also had 10 digs apiece. Wurster tallied five blocks, with Addie Wanner and Kylie Grabau each contributing four blocks.
The SAHS junior varsity squad also lost, 14-25 25-23, 25-4.
Jade Farlow had seven kills, Bella Bailey tallied 17 assists and Shania Neal totaled 10 digs.

Bluffton tops SA
BERNE — The Tigers spoiled the Starfires’ shot at an outright regular season conference title.
South Adams’ boys tennis team lost to Bluffton on Thursday, 3-2. It was the first ACAC loss for the Starfires.
David Villarroel and David Muselman earned the two wins for South Adams (12-2, 2-1 ACAC). Villarroel beat Grant Prible at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-3, and Muselman knocked off Mitchell Kuhlenbeck in a three-set battle, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3.
Dexter Miller, the Starfires’ No. 3 singles player, lost to Aaron Sturgeon 7-5, 6-1.
At No. 1 doubles, Marcus Teeter and Kam DeLong lost to Collin Barker and Reggie Garrett 6-4, 7-6 (11-9). Jamison Kistler and Aiden Bahre lost to Brian Dotterer and Jacob Ehle at No. 2 doubles 7-5, 6-4.
South Adams also lost all three junior varsity matches.
