Jay Co. junior varsity football beats Tigers

BLUFFTON — Jay County High School’s junior varsity football team moved above .500 with a 20-13 victory Monday over the Bluffton Tigers.
Mitchell Frasher scored two rushing touchdowns for Jay County (3-2). Collin Haines also had a touchdown run, and added a 2-point conversion.
Ben Antrim and Caden Stant paced the Patriot defense with eight tackles apiece. Gage Capper picked off a Bluffton pass, and Brandt Pearson recorded a sack.
Jay County hosts Woodlan at 6 p.m. Monday.
Eagles top Driver
DUNKIRK — West Jay Middle School’s seventh and eighth grade volleyball teams picked up a win against Winchester Driver on Monday.
The Eagle eighth graders won 25-17, 25-19. West Jay’s seventh grade squad needed three sets, but pulled out a 25-8, 22-25, 15-9.
Hallie Fields led the eighth grade squad with 11 service points, including four aces. Alison Jobe added six, four of which were aces. Kymia Hankins and Calli Stigleman both tallied five points, and Stigleman had a team-high four kills.
For the WJMS seventh graders, Jayden Price had 22 points, including a 13-point effort in the first set. She recorded 15 aces. Demi Grove chipped in with eight points, and Abby Benter had four. Grace Morgan notched the only two kills for the Eagles.
Chiefs fall to Delta
Kassidy Fennig had six points in a losing effort Monday as the East Jay eighth grade volleyball team lost to Delta, 25-18, 25-14.
East Jay’s seventh grade squad also lost, 25-13. 25-23.
Sara Hemmelgarn had four points and six digs in support of Fennig. Logan Poore tallied four kills to go with her three digs. Elyse Bost totaled six digs and six assists, with Britney Mullins and Emma James both adding four digs.
Natalie Miles and Alana Kunkler both had three kills and three digs for the EJMS seventh graders. Ashlyn Dow also notched three digs. Grace Saxman and Dow had one ace apiece. Miles paced the Chiefs from the service line, as she was 9-of-10 from the stripe.
