Jay Co. draws on late goal

MUNCIE — The Patriots needed penalty kicks to defeat the Eagles in their last meeting.
It was the 2014 sectional semifinal in Yorktown.
Tuesday in Muncie, Jay County High School’s girls soccer team was evenly matched again with Delta, as the teams played to a 3-3 draw.
It was the second draw of the season for the Patriots (5-2-2).
Freshman Hannah Phillips scored her first career goal on an assist from Lucy Laux in the opening half. Laux now has six assists to go with her team-high 15 goals for 36 total points.
Delta scored a quick goal in the second half before senior Gabbie Mann notched two goals to give Jay County a 3-2 lead just 10 minutes after intermission. It was the second multi-goal game of the season for Mann, who pushed her scoring total to eight.
The Eagles scored the equalizer on a penalty kick late in the game.

Fort falls to Cards
FORT RECOVERY — The Indians got out to a hot start on Tuesday.
The offense fizzled in the final three sets.
Fort Recovery High School’s volleyball team won the first two sets but dropped the final three in a 20-25, 12-25, 25-20, 25-9, 15-9 loss to the New Bremen Cardinals.
Kendra Siefring paced the Indians (8-7) with 10 kills. She also had 11 digs.
Kirsten Jutte and Carley Stone had six and five kills respectively, with Jutte adding eight digs and 23 assists. Stone also chipped in with five aces. Madison Grover totaled 26 digs.
Fort Recovery’s junior varsity squad lost the first set but rallied for a 16-25, 25-18, 25-21 victory.
Madi Rammel led the Tribe with nine kills and 19 assists.

She also had six digs. Hanna Knapke tallied seven kills to go with her team-high 12 digs. Sydney Dues had six kills, five assists, seven digs and two aces.
Grace Thien totaled three blocks, seven digs and five kills.

Stars thump Indians
GAS CITY — Maddie Morgan scored three goals and Lexi Dellinger added two Tuesday as the South Adams girls soccer team beat the Mississinewa Indians 8-2.
Morgan scored two of her three goals in the first half, and Dellinger netted both of hers in the first 39 minutes, helping the Starfires (5-5) to a 6-0 lead at halftime. Morgan tallied both of her scores on set pieces. Dellinger found the back of the net on a breakaway, and plunked her second goal off the post in the final two minutes of the half.
Virginia Lagos and Jordyn Weaver both had first-half goals.
Mississinewa scored early in the second half to make it 6-1, but Riley Liechty put the Stars back ahead by six. Morgan finished off her hat trick with 18:29 remaining after the Indians had cut the deficit to five.

SA sweeps Blackhawk
FORT WAYNE — South Adams’ boys tennis team moved to 14-2 on the season Tuesday with a sweep of the Blackhawk Christian Braves.
David Villarroel and David Muselman outlasted their opponents at No. 1 and No. 2 singles respectively. Villarroel dropped the first set to Jared Fiedler 6-3, but rallied to take the final two 6-2, 7-5.
Muselman also lost the opening set to Drew Hall 6-4, but dominated the remainder of the match to the tune of a 4-6, 6-1, 6-0 victory.
Dexter Miller defeated Ethan Yourdon at No. 3 singles, 7-6 (7-5), 6-3.
At No. 1 doubles, South Adams’ Marcus Teeter and Aidan Bahre beat Bailey Brouwer and Joseph Angelo 6-1, 6-1. The Starfires’ No. 2 doubles tandem of Kam DeLong and Zach Teeple defeated Graham Gnagy and Spencer Lee 6-3, 6-0.
South Adams’ junior varsity team lost 2-1. Jamison Kistler earned the only win.
