FORT RECOVERY — The Indians have found their groove.
Fort Recovery High School’s baseball team broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the third inning and added an insurance run in the fifth for a 4-2 victory Saturday against Lima Shawnee.
It was the fourth consecutive win for the Indians (5-1) after splitting a season-opening doubleheader with Arcanum on March 26.
In the bottom of the third inning, Jackson Hobbs led off with a single to center field and later scored on a bunt attempt by Hunter Boughman and a Shawnee error.
Jacob Homan drove in courtesy runner Cashous Metzger on a double to center field in the fifth for the game’s final run.
Davis Will drew a bases-loaded walk in the opening frame to give FRHS a 1-0 lead, and a run in the second doubled the Indians’ advantage before Shawnee struck for two runs in the third.
Ben Homan led the Indians with two of the team’s four hits. Hobbs and Ross Homan also added walks.
Hobbs got the nod on the bump for the Indians and earned his second win. He scattered four hits in seven innings, allowing two runs — one earned — while striking out six.
The Indians host Franklin Monroe at 5 p.m. tonight.
Seven qualify
PERU — Seven local wrestlers qualified for a national tournament based on their finish Saturday in the HYWAY State Championships at Peru High School.
The top eight reach the NUWAY Nationals.
Memphis Torre was tournament champion at 45 pounds in the 6-and-younger weight class. Maddy Wenk won the girls title, finishing first at 76 pounds in the 11-and-younger age division.
Cody Rowles (68 pounds) and Cameron Clark (76 pounds) were both runner-up at their respective weights in the 9-and-10-year-old division. Bryce Wenk, also competing in the 9-and-10-year-old division, placed second.
Tony Wood (62 pounds, 9-10-year-olds) was fifth, and Sylas Wenk (52 pounds, 7-8-year-olds) was eighth.
The NUWAY Nationals tournament is Saturday and Sunday in Battle Creek, Michigan.
