FORT RECOVERY — The Indians had the advantage in hits.
They just had a difficult time pushing runs across the plate.
Fort Recovery High School’s softball team smacked a dozen hits, but errors turned into unearned runs for the Jets in an 11-3 loss to Franklin Monroe on Monday.
Franklin Monroe had a 1-0 lead in the second inning, but tacked on four runs in the fifth and three in the third to lead the Indians 8-2 after five innings.
Both teams added a run in the sixth, and two more by the Jets in the top of the seventh completed the scoring.
The Indians (0-6) had a 12-9 advantage in hits, but committed nine errors leading to eight unearned runs for the Jets.
Sophomore Carley Stone was 3-for-3, with Devin Post, Kasey Vogel and Chelsea Timmerman adding two hits apiece. Timmerman had a triple, and drove in a run. Tori Vaughn had the other RBI for the Indians.
Audra Metzger, Logan Ranly and Hannah Knapke also added singles.
Timmerman took the loss, going the distance while giving up nine hits, walking one and striking out one.
SA drops opener
OSSIAN — The South Adams baseball team rallied late but came up short in a 7-3 loss Monday to the Norwell Knights.
Trailing 7-0 in the top of the sixth inning, the Starfires (0-1) scored all three runs in the frame on a pair of errors. Justin Nussbaum scored on the first when the Knight infield had a tough time fielding a ground ball from Tyler Sprunger. Jayden Dull and Sprunger scored on another fielding error.
Two South Adams errors helped Norwell score four runs in the third inning, and the host Knights added three more in the fourth.
Mark Clary, Braxton Haight, Grant Besser, Nussbaum and Dull each had hits for South Adams. Nussbaum took the loss, allowing four runs — two earned — on three hits with a pair of strikeouts in three innings.
