RICHMOND — A rough start led to the first loss of the season for the Patriots.
Jay County High School’s girls soccer team allowed three first-half goals on Monday in a 4-0 shutout defeat to the Richmond Red Devils.
It was the third straight season-opening loss to the Red Devils for the Patriots, whose last win in the series was a 3-1 tally in 2012. In 2013 Jay County and Richmond played to a 2-2 tie.
Richmond (1-0) had a 2-0 advantage midway through the first half before extending its lead by one at intermission. Jay County (0-1) was unable to break the shutout in the second half, while allowing one more goal.
JCHS senior goalkeeper Lilly Rogers had eight saves.
The Patriots return to action Thursday as they begin defense of their Allen County Athletic Conference title by hosting the Heritage Patriots at 5 p.m.
Fort falls to Jays
DELPHOS, Ohio — The Fort Recovery High School boys golf team lost to the St. John’s Blue Jays on Monday, 170-192 at Delphos Country Club.
It was the first Midwest Athletic Conference loss for the Indians, who fell to 6-2 (0-1 MAC) on the season.
Austin Faller shot a season low 46 to lead the Tribe, which also got matching scores of 48 from Calvin Rammel and Austin Pohl.
Grant Knapke shot a 50 to complete the Indians’ team score.
The Indians continued MAC play this morning in a match against the Parkway Panthers, and they host St. Henry at 4 p.m. Thursday.
