MUNCIE — Taylor Homan made sure the streak didn’t hit four games.
Homan, a Jay County High School senior, poured in a career-high 25 points Tuesday, helping the Patriot girls basketball team defeat the Muncie Central Bearcats, 53-29.
It put an end to a three-game losing streak for the Patriots.
Jay County (5-4) led 16-9 after one quarter and limited the Bearcats (1-8), now losers of five straight, to just two points in the second for a 30-11 advantage. The visitors held a 37-16 lead after three quarters before another 16-point effort in the final eight minutes.
Britlyn Dues, Homan’s classmate, was second on the team with seven points. Emily Muhlenkamp grabbed a team-high eight rebounds in the win.

Jay County’s junior varsity squad moved to 8-1 on the year with a 47-29 victory. Hallie Fields scored 10 points to reach double figures in back-to-back games. Hannah Phillips and Mikele Suman each had seven points.

SA rally falls short
WINCHESTER — The South Adams girls basketball team put up a late rally Tuesday but fell short in a 43-42 loss to the Winchester Golden Falcons.
South Adams (3-5) erased a seven-point halftime deficit to get within four, 32-28, heading to the fourth quarter. The Starfires scored 14 points in the final quarter, but the Golden Falcons (8-2) tallied 11 to keep the lead and preserve the win.
Madi Wurster and Sydney Pierce had 12 and 11 points respectively to pace South Adams. Pierce hit a trio of 3-pointers, and Wurster did all of her damage from inside the arc. The Starfires also got eight points from Calyssa Lehman and five from Kayla LeFever.
South Adams’ junior varsity team lost 36-29. Emilee Myers tallied a dozen points, Ally Weaver had eight and Lydia Loshe chipped in six points.

McIntire earns honor
Bailey McIntire, a South Adams High School senior, was named the Indiana Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches runner of the year for Class 2A.
Two other Starfires earned all-state honors.
McIntire, who was sixth in the state finals this season after finishing 11th last year, earned the honor for the third consecutive season. It was the fourth time in as many years that a SAHS runner has earned the honor. Sawyer Miller, a 2015 graduate, was the runner of the year in 2013.
Kallee Patch, who led the Starfires to the semi-state as a freshman, was named to the all-state first team for Class 2A, while junior teammate Olivia Von Gunten earned honorable mention.
