Friday at Woodlan: Jay County got out to a hot start in the opening quarter, but the Warriors handled things the rest of the way in a 60-53 victory over the visiting Patriots. Hot shooting from Woodlan’s Aaron Hahn helped erase a deficit, then his 8-for-8 performance from the free-throw line kept JCHS at bay in the fourth quarter. Jay Houck led all players with 33 points and 11 rebounds, and Jason Schlosser reached 10 points.

Friday at Yorktown: After a lopsided loss to South Adams, the Burris Owls fell just short against county rival Yorktown 43-42. The Owls trailed by four heading into the fourth quarter but could not overcome the deficit in dropping their second game in a row.

Game notes: This is the first meeting all-time between Burris and Jay County ... Burris is averaging 50.8 points per game offensively, and surrendering an average of 62.8 points on defense, including 103 to South Adams on Nov. 29 ... Jay County, which is playing at home for the first time after being on the road for three games, is scoring 46.3 points per game and giving up 51.3 points per game ... Burris, which is a Class 2A school, has not won a sectional title since 2003. The Owls have played in two state championship games, once in 1939 and again in 1942 ...
