BERNE — The Rebels lost their five-point first-quarter advantage and trailed by one at halftime.
They didn’t get as close as two points for the final 16 minutes.
The South Adams High School girls basketball team evened its record Monday with a 51-42 victory over the Randolph Southern Rebels at Star Dome.
Randolph Southern capitalized on a slow Starfire start to nab a 13-8 lead after the first quarter. A 15-9 edge in the second gave South Adams (5-5) a 23-22 advantage. The Starfires outscored the Rebels (6-4) in the third quarter, 16-12, and continued to pull away during the fourth.
South Adams’ junior Lexi Dellinger led all players with 22 points, including her team’s only two 3-pointers during the third quarter. She also made all eight of her free-throw attempts.
Madi Wurster was second on the team with a dozen points, while Calyssa Lehman and Sydney Pierce chipped in eight and seven points respectively.
Maddi Mikesell led the Rebels with 12 points.
South Adam’s junior varsity team lost, 32-27.
Lydia Loshe led the Stars with 10 points. Ally Weaver added seven points while Emilee Myers and Shaelynn Bowman added four apiece.
The Starfires continue the homestand this week with a matchup at 6 p.m. Thursday against Delta and a meeting with defending Allen County Athletic Conference champion Jay County at noon Saturday.
Chiefs, Titans split
East Jay Middle School’s girls basketball teams split with the Muncie Northside Titans on Monday.
The eighth grade Chiefs won, 47-22, and the seventh graders fell 29-27.
Natalie Miles and Grace Saxman led the EJMS eighth graders with 16 and 15 points respectively. Aubrie Schwieterman contributed six points, while Pacie Denney and Ana Heath added two points apiece. Victoria Kunk chipped in two points.
Madison Dirksen paced the Chief seventh graders in the loss with 10 points. Heaven Hambrock was second on the team with eight points, and Holly Hemmelgarn tallied four points. Andrea Jutte recorded three points, and Rachel Muhlenkamp had two points.
