Catherine Dunn scored in double figures four times as a freshman.
She’s eclipsed that total 13 games into her sophomore season.
Dunn, a 2015 Jay County High School graduate, had back-to-back games with 14 or more points for the Brescia University women’s basketball team in a pair of losses recently.
The sophomore was 6-for-8 from the field, including making one of her two 3-point attempts, and drained both of her free throws to lead the Bearcats in scoring with 15 points in a 97-65 loss to Asbury on Dec. 8. She also grabbed two defensive rebounds, had two steals and a block.
Dunn then totaled 14 points, five rebounds, one assist and one steal in a 77-65 loss Saturday to Alice Lloyd. She added six points and a team-high five rebounds as the Bearcats (1-13) lost to Pikeville on Sunday, 110-33.
The former Patriot is averaging 9.9 points per game for Brescia, which has lost a dozen straight games.
Elijah Kahlig
Fort Recovery – 2015
Cracked the starting lineup for the first time this season and helped the University of Findlay men’s basketball team in its 91-73 victory Dec. 8 over the Northwood Timberwolves.
Kahlig was 2-for-5 from the field with all but one shot coming from behind the 3-point line. He finished with six points, grabbed four defensive rebounds and had three assists.
The junior made two of his nine 3-pointers and all four of his free throws to finish with 10 points as the Oilers (5-3, 2-2 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) lost to Lake Superior State 90-85 on Saturday. Kahlig also nabbed three rebounds and had a steal.
Wade Gelhaus
Fort Recovery – 2013
Finished as the No. 2 rebounder for the NCAA Division II No. 7 Saginaw Valley State University men’s basketball team Friday in its 75-68 win over Ashland.
Gelhaus started and hauled down eight boards for the Cardinals. He also had two points.
The senior finished with eight points, three rebounds, two blocks, two steals and an assist Saturday as SVSU (9-1) suffered its first loss of the season by an 82-76 score against Tiffin.
Sawyer Miller
South Adams – 2015
Went 2-0 in helping the Indiana Tech wrestling team to a pair of victories Saturday in the Warrior Duals it hosted.
Miller, a 125-pound sophomore, beat Marian University’s Christopher Sharp by tech fall, 20-4, in 6 minutes, 7 seconds. He also won by forfeit against Calumet College of St. Joseph.
The NAIA No. 2 Warriors defeated Marian 43-3, and shut out CCSJ 51-0. Miller, who is ranked fourth in the nation at 125 pounds, moved to 13-2 on the year.
Scott Schwieterman
Jay County – 2013
Started for the Indiana Tech men’s basketball team Saturday in its 67-65 overtime victory over Lourdes.
Schwieterman shot 4-of-7 from the field and finished with eight points for the Warriors (8-4). He also had five rebounds, one block and one assist.
Abby Wendel
Jay County – 2016
Made both of her field-goal attempts Tuesday in the University of Rio Grande women’s basketball team’s 79-74 loss to Indiana University East.
Wendel ran the court well for the Red Storm (6-6), converting on a couple of fast break hoops as she scored four points. She also grabbed one rebound.
The freshman tallied five points, one steal and one assist in 10 minutes of action Friday in Rio Grande’s 97-72 victory over Wilberforce.
Cindy In’t Groen
South Adams – 2016
Played sparingly for the Huntington University women’s basketball team Saturday in its 127-100 loss to Olivet Nazarene.
The freshman came off the bench to play one minute and missed the only shot she took. With the loss, the Foresters fall to 7-5 on the year.
Eric Hemmelgarn
Jay County – 2014
Will play for the NAIA Football National Championship with the University of Saint Francis football team on Saturday in Daytona Beach, Florida.
The fourth-ranked Cougars (12-1), who are playing in the national title game for the first time since 2006, meet No. 2 Baker University (14-0) at 6 p.m. Neither team has won a national championship.
The game will be streamed live on ESPN3.com.
