Middle school girls top Delta

The girls cruised to a victory. The boys weren’t as fortunate.
Jay County’s middle school girls swim team finished in 11 events in its season opener to earn a 227.5-83.5 victory over the Delta Eagles on Monday at JCHS.
The boys fell to the Eagles, 162-137.
Erica Hathaway, Ashlyn Dow and Eliza Bader were all double-winners for Jay County. Hathaway finished first in the 200- and 400-yard freestyle events.
Bader was victorious in the 100 individual medley and 100 freestyle, with Dow earning wins in the 50 freestyle and 100 breaststroke.
Leah Hummel (diving) and Rieley Brewster (50 butterfly) also had individual wins.
Lillian Clemmons, Dow and Bader teamed with Brewster for a 200 medley relay win, then joined Hathaway for a victory in the 200 freestyle relay.
Jenna Dunfee, Elayna Paro, Kaitlyn Hicks and Brewster finished first in the 300 freestyle relay.
The only event winners for the boys squad were Juan Pablo Wiggins (400 freestyle) and Ben Strausburg (100 breaststroke).
Chiefs win two
East Jay Middle School’s wrestling team earned victories against Southern Wells and Heritage on Monday.
The Chiefs defeated the Raiders 57-25, before shutting out Heritage 48-0.
Dyllan Garringer, Blayne Daniels, Zack Twigg, Zakk Atkins and Derrick Allen were all 2-0 on the evening. Lita Chowning, Brian Newman and Braden McIntire finished 1-1.
Also earning wins were Dawson Hundley, Jackson Lyons, Mason Winner, Garrett Mann, Cooper Jacks, Levi Peterson and Ethan Corwin.
EJ girls win
HARTFORD CITY — The East Jay sixth grade girls basketball teams both beat the Blackford Bruins on Monday.
The A squad won 24-15, and the EJMS B team edged the Bruins 13-11.
Madison Dirksen led the East Jay A team with 10 points, and Rachel Muhlenkamp followed with eight points.
Lindy Mercer and Andrea Jutte paced the B team with four points each. Abby Elzey added three points and Kylie Klopfenstein tallied two.
