Middle school swimmers split
Girls move to 3-0 while boys lose on final race of meet
OSSIAN — Jay County’s middle school girls swim team won its third meet of the year on Monday.
The boys lost on the final race.
Jay County’s girls claimed victories in eight events, moving to 3-0 on the young season with a 106.5-78.5 road victory against the Norwell Knights.
The boys dropped to 1-2, losing 94-91.
Erica Hathaway and Ashlyn Dow were both dual winners for the girls squad. Hathaway took care of the distance races, winning the 200-yard freestyle in 2 minutes, 21.01 seconds. Her time of 4:54.74 in the 400 freestyle also earned her a victory.
Dow added wins in both the 100 individual medley (1:08.89) and 100 breaststroke (1:12.95).
Eliza Bader also picked up a victory in the 50 butterfly with a time of 29.04 seconds
Hathaway, Dow and Bader joined Rieley Brewster to win the 200 medley relay in 2:04.61, and the same four claimed first in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:52.87.
Kelly Strausburg, Elayna Paro, Lillian Clemmons and Jenna Dunfee teamed for a victory in the 300 freestyle relay in 3:22.86.
Juan Pablo Wiggins was the lone JC boy swimmer to earn victories, doing so in the 200 freestyle (2:29.46) and 400 freestyle (5:09.64) events.
The 200 freestyle relay team of Matthew Minnich, Tait Longsworth, Samuel Crump and Chase McFarland won in 2:16.77.
