FORT RECOVERY — A third straight win didn’t seem likely after the first quarter.
A strong final three quarters made it possible.
The Fort Recovery High School girls basketball team won its third consecutive game Saturday with a 60-48 victory against the Upper Scioto Valley Rams.
The Tribe (10-2) trailed 17-13 after the first quarter, but caught fire to the tune of 21 points in the second for a 34-24 halftime lead. The Rams cut into that deficit in the third quarter, but a 16-9 advantage to the home team turned into a defeat for the visitors.
Kendra Siefring shot 50 percent from the field and made four of her five free-throw attempts to lead FRHS with 16 points. Jocelyn Kaiser followed with 10 points. Kiah Wendel and Grace Thien each tallied nine points and Whitney Will added eight.
The Rams’ Emily Patton led all players with 20 points.
Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team turned a 17-1 first-quarter advantage into a 36-19 victory. Chloe Metzger had a game-high 17 points, and Hannah Knapke chipped in with 11.
Tribe wins big
ARCANUM — Fort Recovery’s boys basketball team moved to 7-2 on the season Saturday with an 80-53 victory over the Franklin Monroe Jets.
The Indians turned on the afterburners from the start, scoring 20 points in each of the first three quarters. The Tribe led 22-8 after the opening quarter and pushed the score to 45-18 at half. Another 20-point frame in the third gave FRHS a 65-30 advantage.
Caleb Martin scored a game-high 17 points off the bench. He also led the team with five rebounds and four steals. Darien Sheffer made four 3-pointers on his way to 16 points, and Micaiah Cox added 10 points.
Wes Wenning added nine points and Chase Bruns tallied seven, as 12 of the 13 Tribe players scored.
Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team rallied in the second half for a 53-45 victory. Payton Jutte led all players with 15 points, while Cade Wendel and Ryan Braun each added a dozen. Reese Rogers totaled 10 points.
