COLUMBUS — The Tribe is earning state recognition.
Fort Recovery High School’s boys and girls basketball teams were both listed in the first weekly Associated Press poll released this week.
The Tribe girls (10-2), whose only losses this year were to Wapakoneta (43-41) in the season opener and a 56-51 defeat to Jay County, received 21 points to finish 16th in Tuesday’s Division III voting.
Undefeated squads Doylestown Chippewa (126), Ashland Crestview (106) and Cincinnati Summit Country Day (93) top the list at No. 1 through No. 3 respectively.
Rounding out the top 10 are Anna (70), Archbold (69), Sugarcreek Garaway (67), Columbus Africentric (55), Marion Pleasant (46), Lynchburg-Clay (44) and Columbus Grove (43).
Midwest Athletic Conference rival Minster is No. 6 in Division IV. The Indians meet the Wildcats Jan. 28 in Minster.
Fort Recovery’s boys team (7-2) received 14 points to finish 19th in Monday’s Division IV voting, one point ahead of Caldwell and one behind Mansfield St. Peter’s.
Lincolnview, which defeated the Indians 69-56 on Jan. 2, is the top team in Division IV with 143 points. New Madison Tri-Village (99), Columbus Africentric (81), Mogadore (72) and Crestview (66) round out the top five.
Jackson Center (63), Sandusky St. Mary (60), Gorham Fayette (60), Glouster Trimble (47) and Defiance Ayersville (42) are in sixth through 10th respectively.
Versailles, a MAC rival, is No. 7 in Division III. Fort Recovery hosts the Tigers on Friday.
Stars slip
INDIANAPOLIS — After peaking as high as No. 9, the South Adams girls basketball team has slipped to No. 10 in the most recent AP poll.
The Starfires (15-1), who meet Jay County in the opening round of the Allen County Athletic Conference tournament tonight, received 32 points in the Class 2A poll. South Adams’ only loss is to Jay County, 47-24, on Dec. 19.
The Starfires trail No. 9 Frankton by one point and No. 8 Whitko by three.
Rochester (116) remains at No. 1 in Class 2A, with Oregon Davies (109) and Covenant Christian (84) in second and third respectively.
Carroll (75), Lafayette Central Catholic (47), Fountain Central (46) and Eastern (41) are also in the top 10.
