Tribe boys climb four spots

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Indians are moving up.
Fort Recovery High School’s boys basketball team moved up four spots, finishing 15th in the voting in the Division IV Associated Press poll released Monday.
The Indians (9-2, 3-0 Midwest Athletic Conference), who have won each of their last four games including a 54-51 overtime victory Saturday over the Division III No. 7 Versailles Tigers, received 16 points, one fewer than Mansfield St. Peter.
Lincolnview, which defeated the Indians 69-56 in Jan. 2, holds down the top spot in Division IV for the second consecutive week with 182 points. Tri-Village (175), Columbus Africentric (109), Ayersville (100) and Sandusky St. Mary (91) round out the top five.
Gorham Fayette (90), Glouster Trimble (79), Mogadore (68), Jackson Center (41) and Waterford (28) are sixth through 10th respectively.
Versailles fell out of the top 10 in Division III, finishing 11th in the voting.
Fort Recovery travels to Coldwater on Friday to take the Cavaliers (7-4, 3-0 MAC) for sole possession of first place in the conference.

Stars stay put
INDIANAPOLIS — The South Adams girls basketball team remained No. 10 in Class 2A in the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association’s poll released Monday.
The Starfires (16-2) received 19 points and were one of four schools to remain unchanged from last week along with No. 3 Covenant Christian (75), fourth-ranked Carroll (72) and No. 5 Lafayette Central Catholic (53).
Oregon Davis (105) moved up one spot to No. 1, switching spots with second-ranked Rochester (102). Eastern Pekin (52) is sixth and Fountain Central (26) is seventh. Delphi and Whitko are tied at No. 8 with 21 points.
The Starfires, whose only losses are to Jay County, host Fort Recovery at 6 p.m. tonight.

Chiefs top West Jay
DUNKIRK — East Jay Middle School’s seventh and eighth grade girls basketball teams came away with victories Monday over county rival West Jay.
The seventh grade chiefs won 27-14, and the East Jay eighth graders earned a 25-18 victory.
Natalie Miles had a game-high 17 points for East Jay. Grace Saxman followed with seven points, with Pacie Denney tallying two points and Zoey Elzey adding one.
Lillian Clemmons and Grace Morgan had four points apiece for the West Jay Eagles. Abbi Kuss, Demi Grove and Sophie Fugiett each scored two points.
Mikele Suman led the EJMS eighth graders with seven points, while Macey Weitzel chipped in with six. Asilyn Davis and Anhely Montes contributed five points apiece, and Mackynzie Fairchild capped the scoring with two points.
Hallie Fields of West Jay had a game-high 19 points. Nevaeh Cox followed with four points and Delaynie Bennett had two points. Kymia Hankins and Allison Jobe both had one point.

Siefring leads FR
FORT RECOVERY — Derek Siefring scored a game-high 26 points Monday, helping the Fort Recovery freshman boys basketball team to a 62-23 victory over Mississinawa Valley.
Blayne Tobe and Noah Lennartz scored 12 and 10 points respectively to join Siefring in double figures. Mason Will and Brandon Siegrist chipped in with six points apiece, and Braydon Schoen added two points.
Fort Recovery improved to 2-3 on the season.

West Jay 6th wins
DUNKIRK — West Jay’s sixth grade girls basketball team defeated West?Jay on Monday, 21-13.
Isabel Rodgers led the scoring effort for the Eagles with 15 points. Rylee Hambrock and Kaelyn Denney followed with four and two points respectively.
East?Jay’s point totals were not available.
