Patriots get sectional bye
Will play Muncie Central Bearcats or Homestead Spartans in semifinal
INDIANAPOLIS — The Patriots will have to wait for their sectional opponent.
In the IHSAA girls basketball sectional draw held Monday, Jay County High School received an opening-round bye.
South Adams opens its sectional tournament against Woodlan.
In the Class 4A Sectional 6 tournament at Homestead, Jay County (18-3) will play in the second game of a semifinal doubleheader against the winner of an opening-round matchup between the Muncie Central Bearcats (16-4) and the 2015 state runner-up Homestead Spartans (19-2).
The first opening-round game pits the Fort Wayne South Side Archers (9-12) against the Wayne Generals (7-12) at 6 p.m. Feb. 2. The winner will face Huntington North (15-5) in the first semifinal at 6 p.m. Feb. 5.
Muncie Central and defending sectional champion and second-ranked Homestead meet at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 2, with the winner advancing to play Jay County at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 5.
The championship game is slated for 7 p.m. Feb. 6.
In the Class 2A Sectional 36 tournament at South Adams, the Bluffton Tigers (7-14) meet Allen County Athletic Conference opponent Adams Central (2-19) at 7 p.m. Feb 2. The winner will advance to the first semifinal against the Blackford Bruins (5-13) at 6 p.m. Feb. 5.
The Eastside Blazers (6-13) meet the Churubusco Eagles (7-13) at 6 p.m. Feb. 3, with the winner advancing to the second semifinal against the victor of the Woodlan Warriors and the 10th-ranked Starfires (17-3). South Adams beat Woodlan 54-34 Saturday, and is 6-0 against its sectional rivals.
Defending sectional champion Fort Wayne Canterbury was moved up to Class 3A because of the tournament success factor.
The sectional championship is slated for 7:30 p.m. Feb. 6 at Stardome in Berne.
