Defiance College opened its indoor season with a couple of road meets.
Eme Miller enjoyed her return home to George M. Smart Center.
The 2012 Jay County High School graduate picked up her first win of the indoor season on her home track Saturday as the Yellowjackets hosted the Defiance College Invitational.
Miller dominated the 5,000-meter run, cruising to victory by more than a minute-and-a-half. Her winning time was 18 minutes, 13.18 seconds, with Alma’s Hannah Garn trailing in 19:44.32.
The senior also placed third with a time of 2:28.68 in the 800 run for the Yellowjackets, who were last in a five-team field.
At the Jan. 15 Northwest Ohio Invitational hosted by Findlay, Miller placed fourth in the 3,000 run in 10:32.8 and fifth in the mile in 5:17.31.

Gave the University of Northwestern Ohio men’s basketball team a spark off the bench Wednesday in its 93-73 win over Marygrove.
Pottkotter, who has started eight games this year, tallied 12 points for the Racers (8-15). He also had five rebounds.
The senior finished with eight points, four rebounds and two steals Saturday in a 58-55 loss to NAIA Division II No. 17 Aquinas.

Finished as the runner-up in one event for the Tiffin University men’s swim team Friday in a 105-93 victory over Notre Dame College.
Keen was second in the 200-yard individual medley. His time of 2 minutes. 4.59 seconds was 14 hundredths of a second behind the race winner, teammate Petko Toromanov.

Returned from a foot injury suffered Jan. 16 to help the NAIA Division II No. 4 University of St. Francis men’s basketball team to a 79-57 win Tuesday over Huntington.
Comer came off the bench and hit a field goal and two free throws for four points for the Cougars (19-4). He also had one rebound.

Helped the Saginaw Valley State University men’s basketball team improve to 14-4 with a pair of wins against Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponents.
Gelhaus did all of his scoring from the free-throw line Jan. 21, finishing with six points in the Cardinals’ 83-79 win over Northern Michigan. He also had three rebounds.
The junior grabbed one rebound in Saturday’s 68-62 victory over Michigan Tech.

South Adams – 2015
Finished fifth in two individual events for the Purdue University women’s swim team Saturday in a 185.5-114.5 loss at Indiana University.
The freshman’s time of 1 minute, 3.39 seconds, in the 100-yard breaststroke was more than three seconds behind the winner, Lillia King of IU. She was also fifth in the 200 breaststroke in 2:20.81. King won that event as well.
Farlow then anchored the 400 freestyle relay team to a fifth-place finish. She had a split of 53.5 seconds, joining Annie Spaulding, Hannah Manger and Jackie Smailis for a time of 3:34.45.

Played 15 minutes as the University of Northwestern Ohio women’s basketball team defeated Marygrove 97-55.
Kahlig totaled six points, three rebounds and an assist for the Racers, who evened their record at 11-11. She had three points and four rebounds Saturday in UNOH’s 58-46 loss to Aquinas.

Had three points off the bench for the University of Findlay men’s basketball team Saturday in a 78-69 victory over Lake Erie.
The sophomore was 1-for-3 from 3-point range in 10 minutes.
Kahlig also had three points and had one rebound as the Oilers (12-5, 9-3 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) beat Ashland, 71-63. The sophomore was 1-of-3 from the field and 1-for-2 from 3-point range. He grabbed a defensive rebound and had an assist.

Made both of her free throw attempts for the Brescia University women’s basketball team in a 81-76 loss to Asbury.
She played about 10 minutes for the Bearcats (13-11, 8-3 Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference), missing both of her field goal attempts but was one of two Bearcats to be perfect from the free-throw line.
The freshman also had one rebound, one block and a steal.
