Bollenbacher, Becker lead Portland
Rockets win third straight game and four out of five against Jackers
FORT WAYNE — Tristen Becker did the hitting.
Dan Bollenbacher did the pitching.
Becker tallied four hits and Bollenbacher settled in after a shaky first inning on Monday, helping lead the Portland Rockets to a 12-2 victory over the Fort Wayne Jackers at Carrington Field.
Portland, which has won three straight games and moves to 18-5 on the season, broke open a 2-2 tie during the seventh inning on hits from Dalton Tinsley and Becker. With the help of a few Fort Wayne errors, the Rockets pushed across six runs for an 8-2 advantage.
They tacked on four more in the eighth inning and held the home team in check during the bottom of the stanza for their fourth win in five tries against Fort Wayne.
Bollenbacher, a South Adams High School graduate, struggled early by walking four batters. It allowed the Jackers to score two runs in the frame.
He put the rough inning behind him, though, and scattered six hits over seven innings while striking out eight to earn the win.
During the fifth inning with Portland trialing 2-1, designated hitter Kevin Sharpe tied the game with his second home run of the season. It was one of his two hits on the day.
Bill Geeslin and Sharpe followed with three hits each, and Tinsley chipped in with two hits.
Portland’s game Wednesday against the Twin City Bankers at Taylor University has been canceled. The Rockets travel to take on the Cincinnati Chiefs on Saturday, and meet the Yorkville Yaks for a two games on Sunday at South Dearborn High School in Aurora.
