Jay County didn’t just win its sixth straight conference championship.
It set a number of records in the process.
Five team, six pool and seven new conference records were set as the Jay County Summer Swim Team cruised to a victory Saturday in the Wabash Valley Conference Championships at Portland Water Park.
The host team won 34 of 60 individual events and eight of the 20 relays on its way to a team total of 2,607 points. Wells Community was the runner-up with 1,882, and South Adams was third with 1,573. Bellmont (704) and Adams Central (224) were fourth and fifth respectively.
Anne Vormohr, Sophie Bader, Alex Bader and Elizabeth McDowell combined to set a new team, pool and conference record in the 15-and-older 200-meter medley relay with their time of 2 minutes, 7.11 seconds. The quartet also set team, pool and conference marks in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:54.59.
Sophie Bader was one of seven triple event winners, and she rewrote the team, pool and conference records in both the 100 butterfly (1:05.38) and 200 individual medley (2:25.53). She also nabbed a victory in the 100 breaststroke.

In the 100 backstroke, Vormohr broke team, pool and conference records with her time of 1:05.25. She also finished first in the 100 freestyle and 50 freestyle.
Sok Vormohr claimed a new conference record in the 15-and-older 50 freestyle, swimming to a time of 25.33 seconds. He also won the 100 freestyle.
Earning three individual conference championships were Maddy Snow (8-and-younger girls 100 IM, 25 butterfly and 25 breaststroke), Sophie Saxman (9-10-year-old girls 25 butterfly, 100 IM and 25 breaststroke), Mara Bader (11-12-year-old girls 50 butterfly, 100 IM and 50 breaststroke), Ashlyn Dow (13-14-year-old girls 100 freestyle, 50 breaststroke and 50 freestyle) and Eliza Bader (13-14-year-old girls 50 butterfly, 50 backstroke and 100 IM).
Two-time conference champs included Sophie Hoevel (8-and-younger girls 50 freestyle and 25 butterfly), Timo Minnich (9-10-year-old boys 50 freestyle and 25 freestyle) and Joseph Dow (9-10-year-old 25 butterfly and 100 IM).
An additional five swimmers — George Clemmons (8-and-younger boys 25 butterfly), Hannah Laux (9-10-year-old girls 25 freestyle), Elayna Paro (11-12-year-old girls 100 freestyle), Ben Nichols (13-14-year-old boys 50 breaststroke) and Luke Nichols (15-and-older 100 breaststroke) — won one championship each.
The other winning relay teams included Maria Laux, Mikalah Shauver, Snow and Hoevel in the 8-and-younger girls medley relay; Austin Curtis, Creed Beiswanger, Joseph Dow and Timo Minnich in the 9-10-year-old boys medley and freestyle relays; Lillian Clemmons, Ashlyn Dow, Eliza Bader and Erica Hathaway in the 13-14-year-old girls medley relay and freestyle relay; and the 15-and-over boys freestyle relay team of Christopher McDowell, Garrett Campbell Jason Minnich and Sok Vormohr.
