CINCINNATI and AURORA, Ind. — Zach Tanner has been the offensive leader for the Rockets.
He showed his power once again over the weekend.
Tanner hit four home runs in leading the Portland Rockets to doubleheader sweeps of the Cincinnati Chiefs and Yorkville Yaks.
Portland (22-5) defeated the Chiefs 6-0 and 7-3 on Saturday at Lakota West High School in Cincinnati, then returned to the Hoosier state to take two from Yorkville — 7-3 and 15-3 — at South Dearborn High School in Aurora.
Tanner and TJ Lindstrand both hit home runs against the Chiefs on Saturday. Garrett Scott pitched a two-hit shutout with six strikeouts to earn the victory in game one. Craig Martin got the win in the second game, lasting 5 1/3 innings. Dan Borchers preserved the win in relief.
Dan Bollenbacher pitched a complete game Sunday. He allowed one earned run. Tanner blasted three home runs —pushing his season total to 13 — against the Yaks. He was 8-for-15 on the weekend.
Bill Geeslin made his first start of the season in the second game, he picked up the win in four innings of work.
Mitch Waters, Dalton Tinsley, Jagen Millspaugh ad Collin Affolder each totaled five hits on the road trip. Kevin Sharp chipped in with four and Lindstrand tallied three.
Portland travels to Fort Wayne on Wednesday to meet the Northeast Kekionga, Indiana Tech’s summer league team. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m.
