Outcalt earns best scores

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Hannah Outcalt earned three season-best scores Sunday during the Arnold Classic gymnastics meet at Ohio Expo Center in Columbus, Ohio.
Halle Hill and Courtney Miles also competed in the three-day event held Friday through Sunday.
Outcalt, a West Jay Middle School seventh grader, scored a 9.075 on balance beam to set a new season-best score and place fifth in Level 4. She was sixth on floor exercise with a 9.05, also a season best.
She added an 8.35 (13th) on vault and 8.15 (11th) on uneven bars for an all-around score of 34.625. It was her highest all-around total of the season.
Hill, an eighth grader at West Jay and a Level 8 competitor, finished third on vault with an 8.725. She added other top-eight finishes on beam (9.025 – fifth) and bars (8.35 – seventh). She also scored an 8.9 on floor for a 35.0 all-around total.
Jay County High School sophomore Courtney Miles was seventh and eighth respectively on beam (8.925) and vault (8.2). Also a Level 8 gymnast, Miles added scores of 8.925 on floor and 6.775 on bars for an all-around total of 32.875.

Eagles shut out
MONROE — West Jay’s wrestling team competed in the Adams Central Invitational on Saturday and was unable to score a point.
Carter Mitchell and Sean Ashley each won their first matches by pin. Mitchell, a 102-pounder, and the 125-pound Ashley then dropped their second match to get bounced from the tournament.
At 85 pounds, Gage Baker dropped his only match by a 5-4 decision, and Nevaeh Cox (150) lost a 5-4 decision too.
Also competing were Elizabeth Dollar (80), Dylan Bland (132), Shyla Renner (175) and Tre Bishop (HWT).
Team points were awarded for wrestlers who place in the top four.
Full team results were not provided.
