JCHS golfers fifth at invite

WINCHESTER — The Jay County High School boys golf team finished fifth Saturday in the Winchester Invitational at Winchester Golf Club.
Muncie Central won the 11-team tournament with a score of 325, and Union County was second with 336.
Richmond was third with 343, and Blackford was four strokes behind with 347. Jay County totaled 360.
Jay Houck led the Patriots with a season-best 80. Kyler Hudson was second with a 90, as brothers Collin and Graham Haines shot identical rounds of 96 to complete Jay County’s team score.
Nick Hayden also competed, and he shot a 101.
Tribe loses late
RUSSIA, Ohio — The Fort Recovery baseball team lost on a walk-off single, 8-7 to the Russia Raiders on Saturday in the first game of a doubleheader.
The second game was postponed because of rain in the bottom of the fourth inning with the Indians ahead 6-0.
After Fort Recovery (13-6) took a 7-6 advantage in the top of the seventh inning, a single and a sacrifice gave the Raiders runners on first and second in the bottom of the frame. A single scored the game-tying run, and then FRHS senior Jackson Hobbs issued an intentional walk to load the bases. Russia’s Jared Goubeax hit a walk-off single to center for the win.
Jacob Homan had a single and a double, and Will Homan had a pair of singles and two RBIs. Nick Thwaits, Hunter Boughman, Kyle Schroer and Ben Homan each added singles.
Hobbs suffered the loss in one inning of relief.
JC boys fifth
NEW CASTLE — Aaron Neal and Andrew Trewyn both won events as the Jay County boys track team finished fifth Friday at New Castle.
Anderson won the team title with 180 points, and Yorktown was second with 91. The host Trojans scored 74 points for third. Jay County totaled 54 points.

Neal set a new career best in the 110-meter hurdles, finishing first in 15.89 seconds. Trewyn was runner up with a career-best time of 16.58.
Trewyn won high jump with a height of 6 feet, 2 inches. Neal cleared 5 feet, 8 inches to finish fourth.
Two set records
ZIONSVILLE — Two South Adams track athletes set new school records Friday at the Zionsville Invitational.
Sophomore Addie Wanner won the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.31 seconds. Junior Bailey McIntire improved on his own school record in the 3,200 run, finishing with a time of 9 minutes, 36.06 seconds, to also earn first place.
Also earning top-eight finishes for the SAHS girls were Olivia Von Gunten (sixth – 800 run) and Wanner (high jump – fourth).
Drew LeFever had a pair of top five finishes. He was third in shot put (49 feet, 4 inches) and fifth in the discus (144 feet, 3 inches).
Also running for the SAHS boys were McGerran Clouser (15th – 800 run) and Wyatt Miller (19th – 1,600 run).
Patriot JV wins
Jay County’s junior varsity softball team defeated Adams Central 12-2 in five innings Friday.
The Patriots scored twice in each of the first two innings. The Jets cut the deficit in half with two runs in the third inning before Jay County tacked on eight in the bottom of the fifth for the run-rule victory.
Maggie Pryor paced the Patriot offense, going 3-for-4 with two triples and two RBIs. Shelby Caldwell hit her first home run of the season while driving in three runs. Olivia Cochran and Hannah Dillon both had two RBIs.
Kailee Denney had a double, with Shelby Hiestand and Katie Beougher both adding singles.
Rhegan Shimp earned the victory. She struck out four and walked two in five innings.
