The Patriots saw their three-run deficit disappear in the sixth inning.
Their junior catcher picked the right time for his first hit of the game.
Jacob Geesaman hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning Tuesday to give the Jay County High School baseball team a 4-3 victory over the Southern Wells Raiders.
With the game tied at 3-3, JCHS senior Andy Kohler got hit by a pitch to start the seventh inning, and Ryan Schlechty followed with an infield single. Wyatt Geesaman lined out to center field and Kohler advanced to third on the play. Jacob Geesaman, who was 0-for-3 with a strikeout in his three previous plate appearances, singled to center field to drive in Kohler as the winning run.
Schlechty led the Patriots with a double and two singles, and Kohler had a two-run home run in the third inning. It was his first homer of the season.
Josh Vaughn hit a double and Max Moser added a single and an RBI.
Chandler Jacks earned the win, tossing seven strong innings while giving up four hits, including a three-run homer in the sixth. He struck out five and walked four.

Golfers claim title
WARREN — Two seasons into a new conference, the Patriots claimed a championship.
The Jay County boys golf team defeated Southern Wells 159-198 on Tuesday at Dogwood Glen Golf Course, completing a perfect record this season against Allen County Athletic Conference opponents to win the round robin championship.
Junior Jay Houck led the Patriots with a 1-over par 37, and classmate Kyler Hudson was one stroke behind him. Brothers Graham Haines, a senior, and sophomore Collin both shot a 41 to complete the Patriots’ team score.
Nick Hayden also competed, and he shot a 45.

Tribe blanks Flyers
FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery baseball team shut out the Marion Local Flyers on Tuesday, 7-0.
The Indians (17-7, 6-3 Midwest Athletic Conference) jumped out to a 1-0 lead after the first inning and tacked on three more in the third. Fort Recovery added three insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth inning all the while keeping the Flyers off the scoreboard.
Nick Thwaits, a transfer from Marion Local, led the Indians with two hits and a walk. He scored twice and drove in one run. Jackson Hobbs drove in two runs without registering a hit, and Ross Homan added a double.
Cade Wendel, Kyle Schroer and Will Homan each added singles.
Wendel dazzled on the mound, scattering three hits over seven scoreless innings. He struck out five and walked two.

FR drops finale
MARIA STEIN, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s softball team had its season come to a close Tuesday with an 11-1 loss to Marion Local in five innings.
The Flyers scored two runs in the first inning and three in the second before the Indians (3-18, 0-6 Midwest Athletic Conference) scored in the top of the third. Marion Local tacked on one in the fourth before plating five runs in the fifth for the run-rule victory.
Chelsea Timmerman, Devin Post and Kasey Vogel each had a hit for the Indians. Emily Hart, Taylor Thien, Carley Stone and Post all drew walks, and Hart scored the lone run.
Timmerman shouldered the loss. She gave up 11 runs — five earned — on 10 hits. She also struck out two and walked one in 4 2/3 innings.

Huffman leads in win
Maddox Huffman was a home run shy of the cycle Tuesday, helping Pioneer Packaging to a 15-5 victory over Ponderosa Steakhouse in Portland Junior League’s Rookie baseball division.
Huffman had a triple, a double and two singles, and he scored three times to lead Pioneer. Bentley Comer added a double and two singles, and Max Dues had four singles. Dominick Bright, Xavien Maxwell and Carson Busick each had three singles.
Gavin Tow had a double and a single to lead Ponderosa, which also got two singles from Gavin Byrum and Manny Nakodkar. Chase Ninde and Andrew Myers each had a single.
