BLUFFTON — The Starfire boys left the competition in the dust.
The girls squad did, too.
South Adams Middle School’s boys and girls track teams both won Allen County Athletic Conference team championships Tuesday at Bluffton High School.
The Starfire boys had four individual champions in totaling 123 points. Bluffton was second with 74 points and Woodlan finished third with 68. East Jay (58) and West Jay (36) were fifth and seventh respectively.
South Adams’ girls tallied 123.5 points for their victory, finishing ahead of Bluffton (85) and Adams Central (82.5). West Jay (50) was sixth and East Jay (38.5) was seventh.
Luke Gerber claimed the first championship for the Starfires, finishing ahead of the field in the 1,600-meter run with his time of 5 minutes, 5.97 seconds. Michael Rupp won the 110-meter hurdles in 17.98 seconds, a mere one hundredth of a second faster than Isaac Haffner of West Jay. Nic Stuber won 200 hurdles (28.6) and Aaron Timmons was first in the discus with a distance of 131 feet, 6 inches.
Kallee Patch and Jocelyn Willis each finished first for the SAMS girls. Patch won the 800 run in 2:32.33, and Willis crossed the finish line in 5:45.51 for a victory in the 1,600 run. The Starfires’ 4x400 relay team also finished first.
West Jay’s Calli Stigleman was the conference champion in both the 100 and 200 dashes. She finished with a time of 13.39 seconds in the former, and ran to a time of 28.32 seconds in the latter.
