FORT RECOVERY — The Indians got a break when Marion Local fumbled a punt following the opening drive Friday.
Good news was hard to come by for the Tribe after that.
The Division VII No. 10 Fort Recovery High School football team turned the ball over three times in the opening half and trailed by 35 at halftime on the way to a 42-0 loss to the Division VI No. 2 Flyers.
The Indians (5-3, 3-3 Midwest Athletic Conference) gained just 6 total yards as they essentially got two chances at their opening possession, and Marion Local responded by going 80 yards for the first of five first-half scoring drives. The key play for the Flyers (7-1, 5-1 MAC) was a 45-yard pass from Duane Leugers to Nate Moeller, and Jack Homan reached the end zone on an 8-yard run on the next play.
Fort Recovery quarterback Caleb Martin was picked off on a third-and-long play on the ensuing drive, and Leugers needed just one play to make it 14-0 as he scored on a 9-yard run.
Two more Tribe turnovers led to Marion Local scores in the second quarter as Leugers had touchdown runs of 12 and 34 yards sandwiched around a 6-yard TD pass to Ryan Thobe.
The Indians finally put together a drive at the end of the second quarter, reaching the Marion Local 17-yard line. But Homan sacked Martin on the final play of the half and the home team never got close to the end zone again.
Leugers proved too much for FRHS to handle as he finished 7-of-10 passing for 151 yards and ran seven times for 68 yards.

Nate Moeller and Thobe each had three receptions.
Marion Local dominated the line of scrimmage throughout the game, limiting the Indians to 80 yards of offense. Martin tossed for 70 on 9-of-20 passing, and Will Homan,  who rushed for 189 yards last week in a win over St. Johns, was limited to 16 on 17 carries.
Ethan Schoen led the Tribe with 11 tackles.
Fort Recovery will play its final home game of the regular season Friday when it hosts New Bremen (2-6, 0-6 MAC).
