FORT RECOVERY — Will Homan is not for the birds.
Two weeks after carrying the Indians to a road victory with 189 yards and two touchdowns against the St. Johns Blue Jays, the junior running back was a Cardinal killer Friday night.
Homan scored all five of the Division VII No. 10 Fort Recovery High School football team’s touchdowns — three on the ground and two through the air — as the Tribe bounced back from a shutout loss to Division VI No. 2 Marion Local with a 37-0 obliteration of New Bremen.
Quarterback Caleb Martin passed for 42 yards and ran for another 6 on a methodical 5-minute, 81-yard drive on the opening FRHS possession, but when the ball got into the red zone it was Homan’s turn. He first ran 9 yards around the right end and then 7 up the middle for the first points of the game.

On the first play of the second quarter, he capped a Fort Recovery drive by taking a swing pass from Martin along the left sideline and then weaving through traffic for a 24-yard TD.
Each time the Indians (6-3, 4-3 Midwest Athletic Conference) got into scoring position, it was more of the same.
Homan took the ball to the end zone on a 14-yard run late in the second quarter, caught a 15-yard TD pass from Martin on the first drive of the second half and converted on a fourth-and-goal from the 2-yard line in the waning seconds of the third quarter.
Homan’s 153 yards on 13 carries and 39 yards on two TD receptions were part of a strong offensive effort for FRHS. Martin was effective through the air, going 17-of-26 for 214 yards, as Jason Roessner caught six passes for 59 yards while Payton Jutte snagged four for 62.
Meanwhile, New Bremen (2-7, 0-7 MAC) was limited to 111 yards of offense and the only Cardinal player to make it into the scoring summary was punter Nolan Bornhorst. He alertly batted the ball out of the back of the end zone for a safety after a snap went sailing over his head late in the second quarter.
Owen Sheridan led the Tribe defense with 10 tackles. Nate Ontrop added six.
Fort Recovery will close the regular season Friday when it visits St. Henry (6-3, 6-1 MAC).
