MARION — In the second meet of the season, Hannah Outcalt added almost a point on one of her events.
Outcalt, a West Jay Middle School eighth grader, finished first on the balance beam and floor exercise Saturday in the USA Gymnastics Red, White and Boom meet at Marion High School.
She posted a 9.55 on beam, nearly a full point from the 8.6 she earned two weeks ago. She also scored 9.35 on floor, and was eighth on vault with an 8.9. Outcalt had an 8.1 on uneven bars to total 35.9 on all around for fifth in Xcel Gold division.
Courtney Miles, a Jay County High School junior competing as a Level 8 gymnast, scored 8.55 on vault for first place, and was second on bars with a 9.025. She also added an 8.5 on beam and 7.4 on floor. Her all around total of 33.375 was fourth.
Two make aces
A pair of golfers recently made holes in one at Portland Golf Club.
On Oct. 13, Ricky Nava hit a 5-wood on the 18th hole for an ace. Rafael Briones, who has an ace to his record as well, witnessed the feat.
Redkey resident Jeff Geesaman recorded his first career ace Wednesday on the eighth hole. It was playing 142 yards, and Geesaman used a pitching wedge for his hole in one. Witnessing the ace was Rob Moser.
