BROWNSBURG — The Patriots will compete for the championship.
Jay County High School’s cheerleading squad earned a spot in the state finals thanks to its performance Saturday in the Indiana Cheer Championship preliminaries at Brownsburg High School.
The top eight of 13 squads (order of finish is not announced) move on from the preliminaries to the finals. The ICC state finals are scheduled for Saturday at New Castle High School, with the Patriots slated to perform at 1:06 p.m.
JCHS’s highest scores Saturday came from the cheer incorporation/jumps judge, who awarded at least 9.2 out of 10 points in every category for a total of 66.9 out of 70. The squad earned a perfect 10 for its variety of jumps and a 9.9 for difficulty of jumps.
Variety was a strong category for the Patriots across the board as they also earned 10 points for both tumbling variety and pyramid/toss variety.
Jay County picked up overall scores of 62.8 points from the dance/formations/transitions judge, 61.5 from the tumbling judge and 60.7 from the stunts/pyramids/tosses judge.
