UNION CITY — The Starfires got wins from their top singles and doubles players.
The rest of the team wasn’t as fortunate.
The South Adams High School boys tennis team dropped a 3-2 decision to the host Union City Indians on Tuesday.
David Muselman, the top SAHS singles player, knocked off Union City’s Trevor Spence 6-2, 6-0. At No. 1 doubles, Zach Teeple and Jamison Kistler defeated Gabe Loesch and Jacob Bradbury 6-4, 6-4.
Aidan Bahre won the first set 6-1 against Zach Bradbury at No. 2 singles, but he lost the final two each by a 7-5 margin for the three-set defeat. At No. 3 singles, Elijah Thornburg of Union City beat Jack Wallace 6-0, 6-0.
At No. 2 doubles, Cam Stevens and Wallace lost to Chase Jefferis and Jacob Folk 6-0, 6-0.
SAMS girls second
OSSIAN — The South Adams Middle School girls cross country team placed second Tuesday in the Norwell Invitational.
Maple Creek won with 32 points, and South Adams was second with 112.
The host Knights were third with 116, and East Jay finished sixth with 153.
In the boys race, Maple Creek also took the team title with 49 points, ahead of Carroll (71) and Summit (108). East Jay placed sixth with 184 points, and South Adams was eighth with 184 points.
McKenzie Sturwold and Jocelyn Willis of South Adams were third and seventh respectively for the Starfires. Megan Miller (13th), Mia Singleton (26th) and Ella Neuenschwander (63rd) completed the top five SAMS runners.
East Jay’s Lindy Wood, Miranda Alig and Lydie Keihn were 22nd, 23rd and 24th respectively for the Chiefs. Mara Bader was 31st, and Lillian Schmit was 53rd.
Mitchell Winner was the top EJMS boy, finishing in 15th place. Xavier Myers was 23rd, Flint Schmiesing finished 43rd, Tyler Manor placed 45th and Dustin Harris was 58th.
For South Adams, Race Anderson was 16th, Clancy McIntire placed 21st, Isaac Gorrell and Kaleb Stevens crossed in 55th and 56th respectively, and Brady Fox was 61st.
