DELPHOS, Ohio — The Tribe won its first two matches of the season.
Then it opened conference play with a victory too.
Fort Recovery High School’s volleyball team swept the host St. John’s Blue Jays on Thursday, 25-18, 25-20, 25-12.
Carley Stone had a team-high 15 kills for Fort Recovery (3-0, 1-0 Midwest Athletic Conference). She also had 11 digs and a half dozen blocks.
Kiah Wendel notched 15 digs and five aces, with Alexis Bubp totaling 12 digs and a team-high six aces.
Cassy Martin and Brooke Gaerke shared the team lead with eight blocks, and Madi Rammel racked up 29 assists.
The Fort Recovery junior varsity team also won, 25-8, 25-13.
Olivia Patch led the Tribe with five kills, with Chloe Showalter second on the team with three. Hannah Knapke, Val Muhlenkamp and Natalie Homan had two each.
Tribe boys win
CELINA, Ohio — The Fort Recovery boys golf team evened its conference record with a 182-202 victory Thursday over the Parkway Panthers at Mercer County Elks Golf Club.
Austin Pohl led the Indians (3-3 Midwest Athletic Conference) with a 44, making one birdie and one par to finish 8-over-par. Micaiah Cox also made birdie on one hole, finishing with a 45. Grant Knapke and Harrison Kaup scored 46 and 47 respectively.
Also competing were Austin Faller, who opened his round with an eagle but shot a 48, and Calvin Rammel (50).
St. John’s Cole Schoenleben was match medalist with a 41.
Raiders edge SA
GENEVA — Southern Wells edged the South Adams girls golf team 198-199 on Thursday at Golf Club of the Limberlost.
Becah Schwartz made par twice on her way to a team-low 45. Kaiti Gorrell had one birdie and one par to finish with a 47, and Selina Jones converted par twice during her round of 49.
Allyson Schwartz completed the Starfire team score with a 58.
Claire Sutton also competed for South Adams (5-5), and she finished with a 73.
Rachel Harvey of Southern Wells was the match medalist with a 43.

Stars sweep Knights
BERNE — The South Adams volleyball team swept the visiting Norwell Knights on Thursday, 26-24, 25-17, 25-23.
Juniors Madi Wurster and Addie Wanner had 13 and 11 kills respectively to lead the Starfires (8-3). Wanner also added a pair of blocks, with Wurster contributing three aces and three digs.
Morgan Alberson registered a team-high 17 digs to go with her two kills, and Caralie Farlow chipped in with for kills, two aces and eight digs.
Julia Grabau had 26 assists, and Shania Neal added 15 digs.
Shaelyn Bowman led the junior varsity Starfires to a 25-16, 25-15 win. Lydia Loshe added two kills and five assists.
The SAHS freshman team won 25-18, 25-19, with Hannah Beitler had three kills and four digs. Hannah Rhoades added four aces and four digs.

Girls soccer wins
BERNE — Two first-half goals gave the South Adams girls soccer team a 2-1 victory Thursday over Muncie Central.
Lexi Dellinger and Tori Reiley both found the back of the net for the Starfires, who move to 2-1 on the year. Both goals came in the final eight minutes of the opening half.
Muncie Central got on the board late in the second, beating goalkeeper Anna Nussbaum to cut into the deficit. The visiting Bearcats were unable to net the equalizer, as the Starfires held on for the victory.
Nussbaum made six saves.

Tribe 8th wins
FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery Middle School eighth grade volleyball team defeated Union City on Thursday, 25-21, 25-18.
The win pushed the Tribe’s record to 4-0 on the year.
Hope Wendel led the Indians with seven kills. Elena Evers chipped in with three kills, with Paige Fortkamp and Maria Hartings both adding two.
Ava Bubp recorded 13 assists, 10 service points, five aces and four digs. Kierra Wendel added five digs. Kyra Clark chipped in with six points, three aces and three digs.
Results for the seventh-grade match were not provided.
