The Eagles ran the ball 23 times.
Southern Wells could hardly stop them.
West Jay Middle School’s football team racked up 467 rushing yards and scored 28 points in the second quarter Tuesday, defeating the Southern Wells Raiders 41-25.
Caleb Hale led the Eagles (3-0) with 199 rushing yards and two touchdowns on just six carries. He scored from 70 and 60 yards respectively. Wesley Bennett also scored on runs of 55 and 60 yards as he totaling 188 yards on the ground on nine carries.
Andrew Powers also found the end zone on a 49-yard run. Quinn Faulkner connected with Bennett for a 10-yard touchdown as well.
Blake Witt, Bennett and Faulkner had seven tackles each, with Lane Chapman notching six stops. Camdin Harrison and Bennett both had fumble recoveries for West Jay.

Chiefs blank Raiders
PONETO — Riley Huftel and Sheldon Eley both had two touchdowns Tuesday in leading the East Jay seventh grade football team to a 40-0 thumping of the host Southern Wells Raiders.
East Jay’s eighth grade team also won, 22-12
Eley had a 55-yard interception return for a touchdown during the first quarter, and added a 45-yard TD run in the second frame. Huftel scored on a 35-yard scamper in the third quarter, and then stripped a Southern Wells ball carrier and returned it for a 40 yard TD in the fourth.

Bailey Cox also had a rushing touchdown from 65 yards away on the first play from scrimmage.
Taron Bentz totaled 112 rushing yards and two touchdowns for the EJMS eighth graders. Christian Marentes scooped a fumble and returned it for a touchdown for the other Chief score.
East Jay’s eighth graders move to 3-1 (2-1 Allen County Athletic Conference), and the seventh graders improve to 2-2 (1-2 ACAC).

Tribe still perfect
FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery seventh grade volleyball team remained undefeated on the season Tuesday, topping the New Bremen Cardinals 25-1, 25-22.
The FRMS eighth graders suffered their first loss of the season, 25-20, 20-25, 25-21.
Lilie Leuthold and Aubrey Knapke had eight service points each in leading the FRMS seventh graders (8-0, 3-0 Midwest Athletic Conference). Whitley Rammel and Knapke had four kills each, with Marissa Gaerke tallying three kills to go with her three digs and three points. She also had two aces.
Madelyn Knapke totaled 10 assists and Emma Kahlig had three.
Paige Forkamp and Kierra Wendel had six kills each for the eighth graders (7-1, 2-1 MAC). Wendel also posted team highs in digs (17) and service points (11).
Hope Wendel had five kills to go with her 10 assists and 10 digs, while Ava Bubp totaled 11 assists and eight points.
