CENTERVILLE — It took all of eight minutes for the Patriots to get over their second loss of the season.
The Jay County High School girls soccer team scored eight minutes into the contest and continued to pour on the goals in an 8-0 victory Saturday over the Centerville Bulldogs.
It was the sixth shutout this season and fifth in the last six games for the Patriots (7-2).
Senior Stormi Canterbury recorded her first career hat trick, as the Patriots scored four goals in each half. Canterbury also had one assist.
Breea Liette scored twice for her second multi-goal game of the year. Also adding goals were Lucy Laux, Kendra Muhlenkamp and Kayla Ferguson. Laux also had an assist, pushing her team-lead to 10 goals and seven assists. Liette and Muhlenkamp are second on the team with six goals apiece.
Goalkeeper Lilly Rogers had one save.

Perez, Patriots win
Angel Perez and the Jay County boys soccer team moved to 4-6-1 on the season Saturday with a 5-0 shutout of the Centerville Bulldogs.
Perez scored a hat trick, helping Jay County put up four goals during the first half.
Matthew Paquette tallied a goal 13 minutes into the contest. Perez then scored the next three, one of which was off a corner from Daniel Fugiett and the other on a penalty kick with two minutes left in the opening half.
Midway through the second half, Nathan Hamilton found the back of the net for the final goal of the game.
Korbin Auker added an assist for the Patriots, who host Marion at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

Jay boys 13th
YORKTOWN — Jay County’s boys cross country team finished in 13th place Saturday at the Yorktown Invitational.
Skyler Myers finished 38th with a tie of 18 minutes, 53 seconds, helping the Patriots to 328 points. Other team scores were not available.
Alex LeMaster was 51st in 19:18, and Mason Winner placed 72nd in 20:09. Tayler Smeltzer (21:10) and Ben Strausburg (21:18) were 83rd and 84th respectively.
Candler Hedges (22:45) and Nathanael Day (22:50) also ran, and they were 93rd and 95th respectively.
In the girls’ race, Jay County only had three runners and was unable to qualify for a team score.
Senior Erika Kunkler was 51st with a time of 24:59. Vivienne Kunkler finished 80th in 30:46, and Catherine Stafford placed 83rd in 33:42.

EJ 8th 2-2
SELMA — East Jay Middle School’s eighth grade volleyball team went 2-2 Saturday at the Selma Invitational.
The Chiefs defeated Southwood (25-7, 25-13) and Connersville (25-18, 25-22), before dropping matches to Selma (25-21, 25-14) and Alexandria (25-19, 25-22).
Kearston Myers led the Chiefs in both service points (29) and aces (15) for the tournament. She also had six digs and one kill.
Pacie Denney, Alaina Kunkler and Grace Saxman had 21 points apiece. Kunkler totaled 11 aces and Denney tallied seven.
Natalie Miles had a team-high 13 kills, and Kunkler chipped in with a dozen. She also had 2 1/2 blocks, and Denney recorded 15 assists.

Dirksen leads Chiefs
SELMA — Madison Dirksen posted team-highs in three categories Saturday, helping the East Jay eighth grade volleyball team finish 2-2 at the Selma Invitational.
East Jay was victorious over both Southwood (23-25, 25-18, 15-11) and Connersville (25-20, 25-13). Its two defeats were to Selma (14-25, 25-16, 15-13) and Alexandria (25-13, 25-23).
Dirksen racked up 13 aces on her way to 28 points, in addition to totaling 15 kills. Kyanne Anderson and Maddy Wenk both had 12 aces and 22 points, while Wenk recorded 18 assists. Grace Brewster totaled seven kills and seven digs.

Chief 6th 1-3
SELMA — East Jay’s sixth grade A volleyball bounced back from three losses to win its final match in finishing 1-3 on Saturday at the Selma Invitational.
The Chiefs lost to Muncie Northside (25-6, 25-10), Daleville (25-17, 23-25, 15-8) and Yorktown (25-4, 25-17). Their lone victory came against West Jay, 25-9, 25-19.
Natalie Wehrly tallied 23 service points, 14 of which were by way of aces. She also had two kills.
Madison Brunswick and Morgan Reier were second on the team with 11 points. Reier also added eight aces, while Gracie Barnett, Laci McGinnis and Brunswick notched four aces apiece.

Tribe win two
FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery eighth grade volleyball team picked up two wins in a non-conference three-team match Saturday with St. Henry and Coldwater.
The Indians (8-1) defeated the Coldwater Cavaliers 25-9, 25-13 before knocking off the St. Henry Redskins 25-7, 25-12.
Hope Wendel led the Indians with six aces and 19 service points. Ava Bubp was second on the team with 14 points and three aces, and Kierra Wendel and Brenna Homan added nine points apiece.
Paige Fortkamp and Maria Hartings contributed six points apiece, notching five and four aces respectively.
