Chiefs thump Heritage

Five players each scored a touchdown Tuesday in leading the East Jay Middle School seventh grade football team to a 42-0 thumping of the Heritage Patriots.
Sheldon Eley paced the eighth graders in a 49-20 victory.
Taron Bentz led the way with 80 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Gavin Myers and Crosby Heniser both had rushing scores, while Dawson Hundley and Dylan Knapschafer added touchdown catches.
Darius Esparza and Hunter Chapman both threw touchdown passes for the Chiefs (3-3-1, 2-3 Allen County Athletic Conference). Zeke Corwin and Qadon Farrell each had a fumble recovery.
In the eighth-grade game, Eley scored three rushing touchdowns and returned a fumble 50 yards for another score. Two of his TDs on the ground came in the opening quarter.
Bailey Cox scored a touchdown in each of the third and fourth quarters, and Riley Huftel found the end zone from 5 yards out.
East Jay’s eighth graders move to 4-3 (3-2 ACAC).
EJ spikers win
PONETO — East Jay’s seventh and eighth grade volleyball teams defeated the Southern Wells Raiders on Tuesday.
The eighth graders won 25-10, 25-14, and the seventh grade squad won 25-12, 25-15.
Natalie Miles and Alaina Kunkler both had four kills to lead the EJMS eighth graders (8-5). Ashlyn Dow chipped in with three kills, three digs and three aces while also totaling six points.
Kearsten Myers had a team-high 14 points. Pacie Denney totaled four digs, and Grace Saxman tallied six assists.
Madison Dirksen recorded four kills to lead the seventh grade Chiefs (9-4). Kyanne Anderson and Ralyn Chaffins had four aces apiece, while Anderson finished with eight points and Chaffins had six.
Powers leads Chiefs
DUNKIRK — Andrew Powers scored three rushing touchdowns in leading the West Jay football team to a 40-18 victory over the Woodlan Warriors.
Powers totaled 145 rushing yards on six carries. Quinn Faulkner added 75 rushing yards and two TDs on seven carries.
Logan Brown led the defense with seven tackles, as Camdin Harrison and Sammy Crump both tallied sacks. Tucker Corwin recovered a fumble.
Eagles top Indians
DUNKIRK — West Jay’s seventh grade volleyball team edged Union City on Tuesday, 25-14, 20-25, 15-14.
Madison Hammers, Kaden Norris and Isabel Rogers each had nine points to lead the Eagles, who also got six points from Kaelyn Denney. Hammers also added two kills and three aces, while Rogers had a team-high eight aces. Norris also had four aces.
Chiefs fall to Tigers
Both East Jay sixth grade volleyball teams both lost to the Yorktown Tigers on Tuesday.
The A team fell 25-13, 25-5, while the B team dropped its match 25-16, 25-14.
Laci McGinnis had three points, all of which were aces, to lead the A team. Katie Haffner, Eden Abshire and Gracie Barnett had one point each, while Abshire chipped in with one kill.
Aryanna Ray led the B team with four points. Ana Solis, Kylee Cross, Kelsey Frantz and Kristin May each added one point.
