VERSAILLES, Ohio — Reese Rogers had a shaky start.
Cade Wendel’s bat helped the Indians put it behind them.
Rogers gave up three runs in the bottom of the first inning before Wendel launched a go-ahead three-run home run in the top of the fourth to help lift the Fort Recovery High School baseball team beat the Versailles Tigers 7-4 on Tuesday.
Versailles (4-1) nabbed a 3-1 lead after the first inning, but Fort Recovery (4-1) tied the score with a two-run third. In the top half of the fourth, Wendel notched his first career home run to put the Tribe ahead 6-3. Both teams scored a run in the sixth, and Micaiah Cox came in to get the save in relief.
Wendel finished 2-for-3 with a walk, Ben Homan and Will Homan each had doubles and Nick Thwaits, Evan Post and Rogers each added singles. Ben Homan and Thwaits each had RBIs.
Rogers allowed four unearned runs, walked six and struck out three in 5 1/3 innings. Cox struck out three in 1 2/3 innings of relief.

WINCHESTER — South Adams’ girls tennis team opened its season with a 3-2 victory over the Winchester Golden Falcons on Tuesday.
Sydney Pierce needed three sets to win her No. 3 singles match against Autumn Dixon, 6-4, 3-6, 6-1.
South Adams swept the doubles contests, with Caralie Farlow joining Julia Grabau to beat Riley Helms and Leah Wren at No. 1 doubles, 6-4, 6-3. At No. 2 doubles, Breanna Potts and Katrina Fosnaugh won 6-3, 6-1.
At No. 1 singles, Haley Gerber lost to Mariah Roberts 6-1, 6-0, and Virginia Lagos lost ta No. 2 singles 6-1, 6-2, to Grace Retter.
The Starfire junior varsity team won, 6-1. Hannah Dull won her singles match 8-2.

SA falls 9-2
WINCHESTER — The South Adams baseball team committed four errors and couldn’t overcome an early deficit in a 9-2 loss Tuesday to the Winchester Golden Falcons.
South Adams (0-1) gave up two runs in the first inning and three more in the third for an early 5-0 hole.
The Starfires put up a run in each of the third and fourth innings to trail 5-2, but the home squad tacked on four more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Grant Besser and Braxton Haight both had a hit and an RBI. Mark Clary and Jayden Dull also ripped singles.
Gilbert Lynch shouldered the loss, allowing five runs — three earned — while striking out three and walking two. He scattered three hits in two innings of work.
FR boys 2nd
CELINA, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s boys track team finished second in a three-team meet with host Celina and Bradford on Tuesday.
The Indians got only one victory, scoring 25 points, behind Celina’s 128. Bradford was third with 18 points.
Celina’s girls team also won with 134.5 points. Bradford took second with 22.5 and Fort Recovery was third with 18.
Robby LeFevre won the 100-meter dash in 11.43 seconds, and placed second in the 200 dash in 24.05 seconds.
Travis Sutter earned a pair of second-place finishes, running to a time of 5 minutes, 3.78 seconds, in the 1,600 run, and 11:19.84 in the 3,200 run.
For the girls, Chloe Will placed third in the 1,600 (5:53.87) and 3,200 (13:01.17), Hannah Heitkamp was third in the 300 hurdles (56.31) and Kristen Keller’s shot put distance of 32 feet, 3.5 inches was also good for third place.
