The Redskin offense was hot from the start.

It took a bit for the Patriots to get going, and once they did the early deficit was too much to over come.

The Jay County High School softball team got within striking distance late after falling behind 5-0 in the first two innings but lost to the visiting St. Henry Redskins, 12-9.

St. Henry (4-6) scored three runs in the first inning and two more in the second before Jay County (2-3) broke through with three runs in the third. The Patriots fell behind 8-4 after the fourth and 9-6 after the fifth before the Redskins pushed their lead to 12-6 heading to the bottom of the sixth inning.

Jay County answered with three runs in the home half of the frame to trim the margin in half, but after keeping the Redskins scoreless in the seventh the Patriots weren’t able to get any closer.

Emily Corn blasted her first home run of the season, as she also had two singles to lead the Patriots. Kady Finnerty had three singles and a double, while Katie Carpenter, Catera Gierhart and Chloe Trissel had two hits each.

Gwen Butcher suffered the loss pitching for the Patriots.

The Patriots added one run in the fourth and three more in the fifth, while St. Henry scored its only run in the second.
