BERNE — The Starfires’ ace pitcher was at it again.

Katelin Augsburger stifled an opposing offense yet again, striking out 17 in leading the South Adams High School softball team to a 6-1 victory Thursday at Bluffton.

Augsburger, a senior, struck out four in the first inning, three in the third and seventh innings and two in each of the second, fifth and six frames.

In the home half of the first inning, Taylor Augsburger hit a two-run home run, her second of the season. Later in the frame, Jenna Meyers knocked in a pair of runs with a single as the Class 2A No. 9 Starfires (10-0, 1-0 Allen County Athletic Conference) were on top, 4-0.

Lexi Dellinger scored on a wild pitch one inning later for a 5-0 SAHS advantage, and both teams scored a run in the fourth inning.

Dellinger finished with two hits and two runs. Katelin Augsburger and Isabella Ramirez each had singles.

Augsburger allowed one earned run on three hits and didn’t issue a walk in seven innings.



Blomeke lifts SA

BERNE — Corbin Blomeke launched a three-run home run in the first inning Thursday, lifting the South Adams baseball team to a 6-1 victory over the Bluffton Tigers.

South Adams (5-4, 1-0 ACAC) got two runners on base in the opening frame on singles from Grant Besser and Jayden Dull. Blomeke, a senior, put an 0-1 offering from Koltan Moore over the fence in left for a 3-0 SAHS advantage.

The Starfires tacked on two more runs in the third inning on a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly.

One more run in the fourth gave SAHS a 6-0 lead before the Tigers pushed a run across in the sixth inning for the eventual final score.

Blomeke added two singles in leading the Starfires. Mark Clary chipped in two singles, while Marcus Teeter and Collin Shaffer both had singles.

Besser recorded the win, allowing one unearned run on four hits. He had a career-high 17 strikeouts without issuing a walk.

South Adams travels to Lynn on Saturday for a doubleheader against the Randolph Southern Rebels.



FR falls on walk off

VERSAILLES, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s softball team fell victim to a walk off on Thursday in a 1-0 loss to the Versailles Tigers.

Fort Recovery (3-10, 1-2 Midwest Athletic Conference) and Versailles (9-6, 2-2 MAC) were scoreless heading into the bottom of the seventh inning. Caitlin McEldowney hit a double off Olivia Homan and reached third on a wild pitch.

Kami McEldowney hit a grounder to shortstop Hannah Knapke, and Caitlin McEldowney beat the throw home to plate the winning run.

Lydia Wenning led the Indians offensively, hitting a double and a single. Rachel Thien and Knapke each added singles.

Homan took the loss. She scattered four hits in 3 2/3 innings in relief of Devin Post, who struck out three and gave up two hits in 2 1/3 innings.



Tigers top Tribe

VERSAILLES, Ohio — The Indians had the advantage in hits but couldn’t push across enough runs in a 10-6 loss Thursday to the Versailles Tigers.

Fort Recovery (2-5) fell behind 2-1 after the first inning and nabbed a 3-2 lead in the top of the third.

But the Tigers plated three runs in the home half of the inning, and broke the game open with four runs in the fifth to lead 9-3.

The Indians scored once in the sixth inning and twice in the seventh but came up short.

Garrett Faller and Riley Dilworth had three singles apiece. Cole Grisez and Josh Muhlenkamp each had two singles, with Drew Muhlenkamp, Preston Hoying and Joe Homan both had it singles.

Hoying drove in three runs, and Josh Muhlenkamp had one RBI.

Homan suffered the loss. He gave up nine runs — four earned — on seven hits while striking out seven and walking one in 4 1/3 innings.
