OSSIAN — Ashlyn Dow set a new record and the Jay County middle school swim team won all but two events in finishing first at the Norwell Invitational on Tuesday.
Jay County scored 293 points to place ahead of Indian Springs (Columbia City), which scored 228 points. The host Knights were third with 224.
Dow won two events, including a record-breaking performance in the 100-yard breaststroke. She led Jay County sweeping the top three places, finishing with a time of 1 minute, 10.2 seconds. Dow broke the record previously held by JCHS junior Alex Bader. Dow also won the 100 individual medley in 1:04.94.
Eliza Bader earned wins in the 50 freestyle (25.81 seconds) and the 100 freestyle (58.17). Lillian Clemmons also claimed a pair of victories. She was first in both the 50 butterfly (30.73) and 100 backstroke (1:11.66).
Rieley Brewster, Clemmons, Dow and Bader teamed for a victory in the 200 medley relay (2:01.98). Mara Bader, Elayna Paro, Eliza Bader and Clemmons combined to win the 200 freestyle relay.
Driver downs Chiefs
East Jay Middle School’s sixth grade boys basketball teams both came out on the losing end of a matchup with Winchester Driver on Tuesday.
The A team fell 42-29, while the B squad lost 42-19.
Bennett Weitzel scored seven points to lead the A team, which got five points each from Blake Bogenschutz and Peter Muhlenkamp. Dusty Pearson and Josh Dowlen chipped in four points each, and Simon Dirksen and Matthew Fields contributed two points apiece.
Koby Lewellen led the B squad with seven points, and Conner McFarland was second on the team with four points. Isaac Kunkler, Joseph Kunk, Allen Dues and Caleb Darnell had two points each.
Chiefs top Titans
MUNCIE — East Jay’s sixth grade girls basketball team picked up a 34-15 victory over the Northside Titans on Tuesday.
Renna Schwieterman scored 15 points to lead the Chiefs, who improve to 9-1 on the year. Olivia Waters tallied 11 points, while Destiny McManus, Lydia Keihn, Kylie Cross and Eden Abshire had two points each.
