Girls tankers cruise

Middle school roundup

MONROE — Jay County’s middle school girls swim team cruised to a 112-71 victory Monday against the host Adams Central Jets.

The boys of Jay County lost, 97-78.

Eliza Bader, Mara Bader and Rieley Brewster each won two individual events for Jay County. Eliza Bader won the 200-yard freestyle and 400 freestyle, while her younger sister Mara handled the 100 individual medley and 50 butterfly events. Brewster won the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle races.

Also earning individual wins were Justice Murphy (diving) and Elayna Paro (100 breaststroke).

Kearsten Myers, Brewster and the Baders teamed for a victory in the 200 freestyle relay; Kelly Strausburg, Elayna Paro, Eliza Bader and Brewster took the 200 medley relay; and Brooklyn Mattingly, Mara Bader, Paro and Strausburg combined to win the 300 freestyle relay.

Juan Pablo Wiggins was the lone dual winner for the boys, finishing first in the 200 and 400 freestyle races. Damian Hicks (100 backstroke) and Ben Nichols (100 breaststroke) also won their respective events.

Nico Minnich, Wiggins, Nichols and Hicks won the 200 freestyle relay.



Chiefs end with win

The East Jay Middle School sixth girls basketball A team ended its season with a 29-24 victory Monday over RJ Baskett.

The B team lost its finale, 26-19.

Olivia Waters led the A team (10-1) with a dozen points, while Lydia Keihn and Renna Schwieterman both chipped in five points.

Eden Abshire tallied four points and Kylie Cross added three points.

Cross led the B team (2-5)  with seven points, as Destiny McManus and Savanna Hamilton scored four points each. Kelsey Frantz and Stacy Woolslager contributed two points apiece.



EJ 6th splits

GAS CITY — East Jay’s boys basketball A team picked up a 31-25 victory over the host RJ Baskett on Monday.

The East Jay B team fell 12-11.

Carter Link, Blake Bogenschutz, Bennett Weitzel and Josh Dowlen each tallied five points to lead the Chief A team. Matthew Perod followed with three points, as Dusty Pearson, Peter Muhlenkamp, Simon Dirksen and Matthew Fields all had two points.

Cameron Smitley led the B team with four points, and Conner McFarland chipped in three points. Koby Lewellen and Allen Dues scored two points each.
