Chief girls top Eagles
The East Jay Middle School’s girls basketball teams all picked up wins against West Jay on Monday.
East Jay’s eighth graders won 34-6, the seventh grade squad came out on top 30-12 and the sixth grade team earned a 40-14 victory.
Grace Saxman paced the East Jay eighth graders with eight points, and Alaina Kunkler followed with eight points. Pacie Denney chipped in seven points and Ana Heath added four. Aubrie Schwieterman, Natalie Miles and Madison Fouch tallied two points apiece.
Andrea Jutte scored 10 points to lead the EJMS eighth graders. Madison Dirksen and Rachel Muhlenkamp both recorded eight points, while Jayden Claytor and Emily Chenoweth had two points each.
For the sixth grade Chiefs, Renna Schwieterman and Olivia Waters poured in 18 and 14 points respectively. Kylie Cross, Laci McGinnis, Eden Abshire and Savannah Hamilton tallied two points apiece.
West Jay stats were not provided.
Chiefs, Tigers split
HAGERSTOWN — East Jay’s seventh and eighth grade boys basketball teams split games with the host Hagerstown Tigers on Monday.
The seventh grade Chiefs moved to 10-0 with a 36-31 victory. The eighth graders fell to 6-4 with a 51-31 loss.
Landon Grimes led the EJMS seventh graders with a dozen points, and Bailey Cox followed with seven points. Brian Zhang and Brody Auker both scored four points, with Griffin Mann and Nick Fields adding two points each.
Gavin Muhlenkamp poured in 21 points in the losing effort for the eighth graders. Ethan Dirksen was second on the team with eight points, while Gavin Myers scored seven.
Tarron Bentz chipped in five points, Dylan Knapschafer scored four and Colton Walker and Crosby Heniser tallied two points each.
Chiefs fall to Bears
DUNKIRK — West Jay’s sixth grade boys basketball teams both lost to the Monroe Central Golden Bears on Monday.
The A team fell 41-11, and the B team lost 27-4.
Spencer Caldwell and Landon Lowe both scored four points for the A team. Peyton Bennett and Tavin Wasson added two and one point respectively.
For the B team, Landon Weaver and Gabe Goodspeed scored two points apiece.
Both teams are 0-2 on the season.
